Okay so I bought MOTU MachFive 3 Competitive Upgrade.  Finally got the package in the mail (took 4 weeks!!!).
 
so they want page 1 (not a photocopy) of a competitive software package  - but all my competitive software has electronic manuals.
 
and I have to mail (snail mail) the page 1 to motu and wait for serial number??????!!!!!!
 
I have EastWest SO Platinum - no physical manual.
I have IK Total Studio 3 which has Sampletank - no physical manual.
I have Komplete 8 and Komplete 9 Ultimate which has Kontakt 5 - no physical manual.
I have Ableton 9 Suite which has Ableton Sampler - no physical manual.
 
each one of these will qualify me for this competatvie upgrade.  but......how?!
 
MOTU is not opened on weekends and only til 6pm can I call them mon-friday.
 
I cannot register the product on motu.com cause I don't have a serial number and can't get a serial number until I figure out what to do about the competitive software page 1 manual thing.
 
had anybody else out there done the Mach5 3 competitive upgrade and can you tell me how you got your software registered and installed?  I'm stuck.

There's a thread on KVR which says they asked for proof of ownership in that case. As they stated below:

An update for the curious: I now have an officially registered MachFive 3.

"I emailed support and since I didn't have printed manuals available, they just asked for proof of ownership instead. I ended up emailing scanned/PDF'd purchase receipts for EWQLSO, Independence Pro, and MachFive 3 to them. A day or two later, the serial number appeared in my online MOTU account."

kindof convoluted in this day and age of online registrations.
 
I should have splurged and bought the full regular version, I didn't realize it was going to be this difficult and odd to show prrof of owning.

UPDATE
 
so Monday, this morning, I emailed MOTU customer service email address.  I sent them a PDF of my proof of purchase of MachFive 3.2, Ableton Live 9 Suite (Ableton Sampler in Suite is a qualifying product) and proof of purchase of my EastWest SO Platinum (PLAY is qualifying product).  Little overkill but I thought proof of purchase of MachFive and 2 qualifying products might be helpful.
 
told them in the email about electronic manuals and couldn't send them page 1 as per instructed.  Gave them my MOTU User ID and asked them if I could get my serial number.
 
4 hours later and .....MOTU generated serial number and added it to my user account at MOTU.com.
 
not a big deal at all.
 
wonderful.  a new toy to install and play with.  very happy.
