the NI box turned up here with NI covering tape.. was the seal on it or the box inside tampered with ?
 
should be a bit of card in the box with it on and the black cheapo hard drive / usb cable with it

It didn't appear tampered with from the outside and had the NI tape around the outer box.
I cut the plastic stickers to open the product box.
The inside box part (which is supposed to cradle the drive) had collapsed in, and the drive was underneath.
 
No sign of any card or guide, which is usually a5 sized and sits in the cutout, and on top of the drive.
 
Logged a support ticket, just have to be patient now :-)

look at the picture above, it's correct.
 
Setup Information card turn over and it's black but at bottom is a white sticker with serial number.  If you do not have the card that looks like the picture above then you do not have a serial number and only NI can assist.

that's what I thought, there was definitely no "Activation Card" in the box.

The pictures above show exactly what I would expect in the box, definitely were not packaged.
I didn't get the lovely stickers either.

All the previous stuff I have from NI is like that - except the card has actually been a nicely printed setup guide.
 
Thanks a million for the pics, it was really helpful for my sanity. At times I was wondering if they changed the process and the activation card was like a tiny piece of tissue paper that got picked up and blown away in the breeze (hot here - so the fans are all on).

It's hard to believe they could miss including them, and the box definitely did not look tampered with, and the outer box DID have the "NI" sticky tape all around it.

I'm going to check the time zone differences and get on the phone to them ASAP Friday.
I did log a ticket earlier, but definitely needs a phone call to sort this one.

One quick phone call, great to deal with.
Less than 3 minutes waiting, read the barcode to the support guy and instantly given the activation code.
 
Just activated it, now downloading updates.

My experience with NI is they are great if you call them, if you try to do it by email it takes forever.

Glad it's sorted out.
