I have both Orange and Fender and use them almost exclusively. I am still amazed by how good they sound. Sometimes the amp choice that I end up using surprises me, in that it is not the amp I thought I was going to use that sounds the best for the song I amp creating. This morning I was completely blown away by how good the little Champ 600 sounded in my mix on a nice crunch setting. It just cut through perfectly.
S Gear was my first choice, but now has fallen to second choice for me. I am still exploring the Wayfarer, but the Amplitube amps are making it hard for me to switch over and explore the S Gear in more depth.
Ampeg SVX is still on my wish list and I will probably pick it up this Summer if it goes on sale again. Then Hendrix. Yes, know that that the are on sale right now, but I am stashing away my Christmas money into an emergency CPU fund. I fear I have a motherboard that is about to crap out.
Obi, I have several POD items as well. This weekend I made an attempt to resurrect the POD 2 kidney bean into a song. I even tried passing it through a tube mic pre to get a little extra tube tone out of it. I just couldn't get a tone that I liked out of the bean. All of my amp sims were just blowing it away. Other than real tube amps, for me, the amp sims have given me consistently the best tone. I don't know how much further I will continue down the amp sim path because I am starting to look real hard at several of the tube micro amps...but for the price and convenience, they are hard to beat sometimes.
