"All of 'em, I hope."

+1

I think that's a great summary and expectation as the year starts.

I personally hope to get better using each of the tools I now have at my disposal, and hopefully I will be less tempted by killer new offerings that come out this year.

Almost every time I pick up a new or updated tool it seems to help my arsenal of tricks a lot. But just about each time as well I have to slow down my song production for a bit to learn about the new thing.

So for the moment I'm looking forward to applying my energy on the stuff I already have.

One of the big ones I'm getting deep into this year is Omnisphere.

I got a years pass to the Groove 3 videos which should help all round. I am still learning BFD 3 and need to get to the same level of proficiency as i have with Superior Drummer.

I need to learn Reaktor it has huge potential but I have yet to anything other than load ready made ensembles.

Away from software one musical tool I want to make more use of is metric modulation.

I would love to but don't see myself having the time for that for a while.

Since I'm too broke to buy anything new, I'll be continuing with ongoing explorations of my existing tools.

This year I dove into Omnisphere, and there's still plenty more to be learned there. Kontakt is another bottomless pit that I've been exploring since 2006 with no end in sight. At the moment I'm learning the subtleties of beat-slicing and looping, in pursuit of a free shaker and tambourine solution. Poverty really is a great motivator!

When I get bored with those two, I pull up Zebra. It's deceptively simple on the surface but I still can't easily duplicate the sounds of master sound designers such as Howard Scarr and Joseph Hollo - even after spending hours dissecting their patches.

Recently, I've gotten a bug up my arse to learn how to write Android apps. That was inspired by the acquisition of an Android tablet for my wife (trying to wean her off iOS) and the need for a mobile data-entry solution for my day job. I just hope this new pursuit doesn't turn out to be the death of my music-software education.
