I don't see the problem with 64bit only. I wish software would just go 64bit and be done with it and stop trying to make 32bit compatible 64bit. I could be wrong, since I'm just spouting BS here, but maybe that's why there is so much difficulty with compatibility and why people have so much problems with crossing 32bit and 64bit.

I'm in your camp Guitarpima but there are still SO many folks that are living in the 32bit world. I guess we'll see what happens...

Well here are the problems with that scenario...

Many of the "DAWs" are still 32 bit...

i.e.  Harrison Mixbus (which doesn't support VSTi anyways), Acoustica Mixcraft Pro, and Pro Tools JUST went 64 bit...

All of these will eventually be 64 bit...BUT, in the meantime, those who own these,
or who have chosen to continue using the 32 bit versions of Windows with Sonar, Pro Tools,
Cubase, etc...will be left out of the "buy-in"....

That's cutting off your nose despite your face...but, that's what IK does...all the time...
and makes no apologies for it...

64bit only? Coming from the guy that Should know whats going on?

I predicted Native Instruments would be the first to launch a 64 bit only program. Still Kontakt 6 may still be out before ST3 . I can't imagine using Kontakt 5 in 32 bit. Load up two or three Kirk Hunter instruments and an Orange Tree Guitar and my old Daw (12GB, i7 and Vista 64) would creak a bit. Now with 32GB there is never an issue.

It would be a bold move but someone has to do it some time but it will reduce mass market appeal and reduce the potential user base. I don't know is stability issues arrise through having to support both 32 and 64 bit but it must complicate things.

BTW Jbridge will bridge 64 bit plug in into 32 bit hosts.

If I was still using 32 bit I would have no issues with ST2

Exactly.

So it looks like the folks that are still running 32bit are going to save themselves some money by just continuing to use the existing IK vi's and not even think about ST3.

IK is the "Blackberry"  of the rapidly evolving Samplodium...

Still got both somewhere...they were nice, once... but both rested on their laurels and milked a once cutting edge cow as others created the new amazing  tools that are absolutely mindblowing compared to ST

To illustrate IK's irrelevence these days, I own ALL their stuff...was a great deal 3 or 4 yrs ago... but as I'm upgrading my cpu/mb, and adding an 840pro as my boot drive I've sorta decided NOT to reinstall any of the ik stuff, which ALL still sits at 32bit... the only major chunk of realistate on my machine left in that state...

except amplitude... they fixed that ONE product... i think... didn't they?  oh, I'm soooo confused....

IKberry... best of luck!

Amplitube 3 - 64 bit (free update), new models being added frequently.
T-Racks - 64 bit (free update), new models being added frequently.

Sampletank, Sonic Synth, Miroslave, SampleMoog, SampleTron, still stuck on 32 bit.

I checked out that thread and found something amusing. The IKM reps keep using phrases like "I'm told", when reporting a feature of the new product. That's the funny part because anyone talking on social media, about a product they represent, should only deal in first hand knowledge.

I'm told Cakewalk will be releasing an X3d patch. It's going to address bugs and focus on specific graphics issues; or so I'm told. It should be out very soon but the clever bakers will not release it before it's just perfect. It will change everything and be backwards compatible with Sonar X1d; or so I'm told.

That is because 'I'm  told' that every statement will be picked apart if some disclaimer isn't used.

To be honest, has it really made any difference? Aren't these things already being "picked apart"? On the contrary, when someone is promoting a product and states "I'm told" this or that, it leaves a view of uncertainty about the actual knowledge/validity of the product. It doesn't instill confidence to the prospective customer.
I suppose most people are just frustrated with IK in not keeping up with the (64 bit) industry standards with regular updates after investing a lot of money in these products. I'll still use all the 32 bit IK software I purchased as I think they're still very useful, but my confidence in IK's support of these products are something that's left to be desired.
