Some people remember dates like the Kennedy assassination but I always remember this date and think of John Lennon. What a waste and tragedy. He gave us all such enjoyment and without his time on earth this world would not be the same.  RIP John Lennon

That's burned deep into my memory.

Likewise, Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, also fell under the bullets of a deranged fan, 9 years ago today.

Fans, man. Often weird, sometimes lethally so...

He was coming home from listening to mixes on Double Fantasy that fatal night. That album is great BTW. A great book to read is 'Lennon' by Tim Riley. Some say it is the most in depth and accurate account of his life. I loved the book. Great to listen to all the music as mentioned in the book too in the order that it is mentioned. It is quite a journey. Some of his best music came after the Beatles too.

The arrangements on Double Fantasy can get in the way at times. Not that they're poor, but they don't always serve Lennon's music in the best possible way.

I've always known DF was great, I appreciated it, and enjoyed a few songs.

But THIS version serves it much better. Plus, it's easier to get rid of the Yoko stuff. ;)

My fantasy would be that the bullets hit Yoko instead of John...

Yeah- lots of people wish he was a Paul McCartney fan I bet. I believe Lennon's best album was Plastic Ono Band- love it from start to end.

No disrespect intended, but a friend of mine who is a Beatles junkie has given me many books on the boys and behind the scenes mascinations ,, and there was lots of trouble in paradise esp between Paul and John ..

It is a sad anniversary.  I was in New Jersey at the time and listening to WNEW-FM when it happened.  They played Lennon's and Beatles' songs and interviews while they tried to keep us updated about the shooting.  A sad day indeed.

I was in 5th grade, but I remember it well. I finally got to go to the Dakota in 2012, Then the wife and I went for a walk through Strawberry fields entering Central park.

I've read Riley's book as well Jeff. I think it tells a very truthful account of Lennon's life. Riley shed a lot of insight on Johns entire life. His life was pretty messed up from start to finish.

No offense Backwoods, but I would have been just as devastated if it had happened to McCartney instead of Lennon. They are both musical genius. Both were stronger together than apart. They fed off of each other's inspiration even after they stopped working together. They were always like brothers to the end.
