Hi, guys. Not spamming and am in no way affiliated with GOG but saw this on another nerdy site I frequent and know we've got some gamers here so thought some folks might be interested.

http://www.gog.com/ has Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics available for free download over the next day or so. I'd never heard of them so I held off until I checked it all out before posting. The site's pretty slick (much easier to use than Steam) and I scanned the downloads with avast and they were clean. Fallout 1 is working fine on my crummy laptop (haven't installed the others yet). You probably don't want to toss these on your DAW just to be safe and I certainly advise caution when downloading anything "free" but all seems on the up and up as far as I can tell. They just sell older games and stuff and this is some kind of promo freebie.

Here's their Wiki with some more deets on the site...

You do have to create an account but you just have to give them an email (I created a burner just to try it out). Pretty sweet and they give you a bunch of other free games on signup too.

So yeah... this is indeed me Beepster (didn't get hacked or something). Just thought I'd give ya'll the heads up before the freebie ended.

Merry ho ho and happy new new and all that stuff. ;-)

I also saw this on another forum I frequent. I'll most likely DL it today (I think today might be the last day being free).
I have about 30 games on Steam and only actively playing a few (Bastion, Crysis 3, Teamfortress 2, and Portal 2). Out of all these, I'm just hooked on Team Fortress2 (the free one too).....multiplayer is great!!

Which games do you play?

Hi, mesh. I don't actually do a lot of gaming (little too busy with other stuff) but I do like me some CoD every now and again to blow of some steam (no pun intended). I had been hearing about Fallout for so long I figured it would be worth checking out. It's pretty cool but I actually thought it was a FPS. Works out better though because I don't really like playing FPS games on my lappy and I'm not keen on installing too much crud on my DAW I make an exception for CoD but I buy the discs for that series). This is working great and I don't have to attach my keyboard and trackball to play it. Maybe the later versions will.

But yeah... it's all checking out fine here and GOG seems like a pretty cool site. I actually prefer older games because I missed out on so much over the years of not gaming (I was a Nintendo kid but then I got into sex, beer and rock and roll) and they don't require a specially souped up rig to play.

Happy holidays!

Thanks Beeps!! I think I'm tapping into my inner child.....LOL. ....with all this gaming stuff (I didn't play much (if at all) either growing up......). With PC games being so cheap, it's easy to get good deals on a regular basis. Check out https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly as they usually have some of the better (older) games for dirt cheap. They have a "pay what you want" thing going on (collecting money for charity) and if you donate more than $6, you can get a whole bunch of games......providing you have time to play them.

If you get some time, check out TF2 (all you need is a mouse & keyboard)....it's free on Steam.

I was curious and went to their site, but I don't see the titles you reference.  I just went to the Price dropdown and selected "Free."  They do have several titles listed there, but not those.  In fact, I just typed in "Fallout" into their search box and got no matches...

Nevermind.  Their search box needs some work.  Evidentally, if you already have other qualifiers selected (in my case "Price: Free"), then the search only works on the first level of results.

I found the Fallouts, but I have no idea why they aren't showing up under the "Price: Free" category.

Thanks, Mesh. Yeah, PC stuff seems to be the way to go. No need to spend a buttload on consoles and subscriptions when I've got perfectly good computers to use and the titles are cheaper. Having the fancy controllers would be nice and I guess I could buy one for my PC but really I ain't spending money on that. Gear comes first for splurging type expenditures. As far as Steam... IDK, I found it to be kind of a pain what with the client and just the way it handles stuff.  I got the Everquest free thing through it just to check it out and it was quite the ordeal. This was a little quirky at first but once I figured it out I got the installers pretty painlessly. It'd be different if I was into the latest and greatest games but I just like to goof around every once in a while.

Hi, craig. It's a bit of fiddling around to to the right area. Like I was clicking on one thing that SHOULD have gotten things going but it asked me to log in then threw a 404 when I did. Then further down the page were some other buttons and they worked. Can't remember exactly what I did but eventually it made it into my "Cart", I pushed it through to checkout then the games were downloadable from the "my games" section. Not the greatest design but still easier than some other places.

BTW I saw something in their FAQ about IE not really being the greatest on the site, especially anything before IE9. They recommend Chrome or Firefox... just in case anyone runs into problems on IE.

Cheers.

Oh and I found the Fallout titles by typing Fallout into the search box and clicking the dropdown links from there (sounds like what you did). The actual browse games feature was just too huge and a little weird so I never got to the point you did.

That could be it.  I usually run IE9.

Yeah, if you're still having issues try Firefox. Once I found the right links all was smooth. Downloaded pretty darned fast too. I was expecting like an hour or more for each game. It took like 20 minutes for all three. Pretty surprising considering a lot of people are probably snagging them.
