They are putting a lot of hope in technology that is currently illegal for this sort of thing.  Having a company like Amazon behind it might help, but I suspect it will be a major fight.  Currently it is illegal to use drones commercially.  Six states will be chosen for a pilot program for implementing various commercial usage.  This may include a special license amd other things that may make it a very non-cost effective method.

Apart from the legal battles of implementing this, what's to stop someone from doing this:
 
"If one comes over my field I'll shoot it out of the sky a grab the goodies (as well as the drone)!!"
 
This is surely going to open up a can of worms.....

It's a cool idea but I can't see it working out.
