Clapton is poor example. His playing is kind of "thin" as it is... and I dare you to try and get a nice SRV tone out of a Gibson. It just ain't gonna happen.

I don't agree, but here you go Thin Lizzy, try get such great sound out of the fender - it aint' gonna happen...

My first guitar was a CSL Blazer. It was a god-awful Strat copy with sky high action that was I believe a cheap rebranded Korean guitar. I played it through an atrocious 15W amp called an Image Imp. Distortion was achieved by turning the volume up full and distorting the crappy speaker. With this setup, I learned guitar by painstakingly copying Kirk Hammet's solos off of the first Metallica album, eventually progressing to improvising blues along with Led Zeppelin. Happy days!

That is indeed a killer tone.

@offnote... Different tools for different jobs. It's like slagging on a ball peen hammer because you can't frame a house with it. Part of being a well rounded guitar player is knowing what guitar to use for specific applications.

BTW... that's a studio recording. You don't know what they were playing and you don't really get a good look at what the "lead" is played on in the vid. Looks like a custom job. The big tonal debate between Gibson and Fender is usually more a debate between humbuckers and single coil anyway. Toss a humbucker on a Strat and you'll get a lot more meat out of it.

I understand that but trying to understand why rock music sucks today - probably among the other reasons because they're using wrong tools for the job!

comparing to gibson fender sounds thin and cheese..and how does it look??? like plank wood with strings...

Maybe..................................

Just maybe......................... its because of the single coil pickups, scale length, alder bodies and bolt on neck.........

you're probably right. I been in GC today and the cheapest strat I've seen for 100$ while gibson for 700$. On the other hand the most expensive fender was for 1200$ whereas gibson over $4000... I guess fender is made in China then?

I guess.....................?????

Or............Indonesia, Mexico or occasionally India............

And for Gibson pricing..............you weren't looking to hard..............

The entire Melody maker line is USA made and around $400.00 bucks.

Or.................

Have you heard of a small company named Epiphone?

Or even Maestro.................?

Are your saying Fenders weren't alive and well in the 70's ?

Or are you saying your still stuck in that era and just don't relate to new Rock Music?
