There's a new DAW system builder out from Roland. It's on FB, it's a blog. The VS 700 is still listed on Rolands website, Page three. I've lost the link but with all the teeth nashing over the VS 700 verses the Octacapture etc., I felt inclined to reinstate that the system is still there.

I've been looking on sites such as sweetwater etc, none of them have them in stock (from what I culd see) but they say they can get it.

looks like the days when Roland killed the VS2480. Even in the webinar, they had it there, but why wouldn't you even use it one time to show that it functions well with the new OS? Why does it seem like the towel has been thrown in as far as development and better integration for the VS? Who no videos from cakewalk since X1 with the VS system/ The were killing the system with ads, promo's youtube video's since sonar 8, but lately nothing. Typical roland trend Yeah i know I should use chrome on this site all it does is jumble everything together no matter how I type it...

gotta say it looks pretty clear that our beloved V700 gear is now an afterthought and we may have become victims of the 'alleged' love affair between Roland and Cake. There is no evidence our gear is the flagship we were sold it to be as it has been delegated to the background of everything else going on.

In all seriousness, if you are looking at long term hardware choices for your system of choice because this is important to you, I would suggest that you would be well advised to to look elsewhere...perhaps. I'm loathe to admit it, but please show me evidence to suggest otherwise. That being said, it is still a great bit of gear albeit apparently not a supported product amazing us all with it's once brilliant integration (8.5).

Personally I'm not jumping on the X2 bandwagon (free strings isn't a motivator, that's for sure ) as I need to think hard on the direction I take as we are planning a very modest commercial facility resulting from the interest we get here from those prepared to pay. No point starting down a new path with Sonar if the only hardware platform is not fully supported... unless willing to roll back to 8.5? Yikes.

Anyway, it is still great gear but there is sadly NOTHING to suggest it is the future for X2 and beyond unless someone can direct me to something contrary. Note: it would be GREAT if my assumptions are wrong.

Yeah this is an absolute shame hesitating to upgrade to newer Sonar version because we purchased thier flagship hardware a couple of years ago...

Seriously, what kind of ressources does it take to keep it up to date?? 2-3 devoted guys? That's a joke I think. Damn let's gather some money from us users and pay them 1 week of salary to have everything up to date! Damn...

And check the absolute absence of Cakewalk' staff in thread like this one. The least would be the speak us the truth, not like in those thread back then saying "Yeah the system will be supported for the foreseable future".  What do we got since then? One fast "tick the boxes" update for X1, with a messed up eq which took a while to be availible... remember... and the X1d which introduced a delay in the display making it a little worst.

The thing is, we don't need THAT much. Some bug fixes, some enhancements, and the system is awesome. It's not like NI Maschine, where years of developement are necessary to provide the user base with desired (and promised) functions. And the silence ... well ... says it all.

Ahhh I agree SO MUCH with you Grent, just some stable and tested bug fix and basic enhancements would be enough.

I don't know if I'm the only one here, but when I bought this system I wanted it to be the heart of my studio and to built everything around it.  Seeing that this heart was left dying so quickly by the makers really upset me. I mean really. 

Seriously, we're at the point of asking ourselves if the next Sonar instance will work. Let alone be improved. Why can't it be brought back to it's former (and brief) glory??  

Anyone?? Cakewalk??? Please say something. And don't just drop a line and disapear, let's have a discussion at least once...

I was hoping to do the same thing, build the whole system around the VS. I've been here with Roland before, with the 1680, and the 2480, I should have known better since it's Roland calling the shots now. But it won't happen again Roland, no matter how awesome (if) your next machine is, I will stay far as we know how quick you give up and throw in the towel on your own stuff and the people that support you.

Yeah I hope we are wrong folks coz these discussions are fairly destructive. The system as it is while still excellent, just doesn't startle the user like it did under 8.5. Maybe we all have it wrong and X2 is simply never intended to be geared towards tactile people like us...we just haven't been told yet.

Anyway, for now yes it still all works (mostly..kinda), it's just seemingly not going to be supported any longer since X1 etc.

Damn shame really.... I'm betting Cake just isn't going to get any thanks from Roland (parent company) for confirming what we've all worked out.

Decision time is looming I guess.... has anyone considered seriously moving back to 8.5 at all? I'm wondering if that is the better option over jumping platforms and starting all over again. I think I'd probably have to bite the stinking bullet and go to the expensive side....pooTools. The hardware options are long term and too hard to ignore now..... perhaps? <insert sad face>
