'My Sharona' was by The Knack, not The Clash.

Did it on purpose.

Was trying to see how much of the irony people would get.

None, obviously!

The Clash, Sex Pistols and many of those bands were nothing but a media reaction to the over abundance of press and articles on the big bands. You do the opposite, you take the worst and the lowest of them and you show them as great.

It was at that time that FM radio in America was being bought out by record companies, and all the music you heard became the top ten, and the stuff that the record companies wanted you to hear. To this day, it's the same thing, and we still "approve" of it!

We have no taste or personality at all?  To the point that the only thing we can do is compare to something else, instead of looking at yourself in the mirror? Go ahead scratch it, then! You might get it then! (Peter Gabriel reference, btw!)

My old band played My Sharona. I liked playing it. It made the girls dance.

Pedro, much as I love you (and genuinely respect your opinions on a number of topics), there is just so much wrong with this that I don't honestly know exactly where to start deconstructing your argument...
...

If you were around Southern California radio, in the early 70's and saw the freedom that FM radio had to bring out so many new bands, and then watch them all disappear in 3 months, because one man paid one band 100 million and put 300 bands out of work on the same day, and another paid the other band 120 million so they could have a 20 ft dick on the stage, so people would think it was cool. It was "twerking" almost 40 years ago! And we thought it was funny, but now we don't with what's her name on it!

It leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

The problem was, that all of a sudden, you had to like The Clash, The Knack, The ****s, The Pusspuss, The Slits, The X, The Bullpucky ... because the record company was the one putting it out, and since most magazines were tired of the groupie stories on Led Zeppelin and The Who, now there was something else to start out the new day ... bad music, with great advertising ... and of course ... many of us thought they were great, because many of us would not get caught DEAD next to our friends not liking the same dopey **** they smoked and liked!

I like the song ... no worries.

But honestly, by that time, I was sick and tired of "songs", instead of "music".

Give me "Tales from Topographic Oceans" any day, and it stands up like a Beethoven's 9th, or a Mahler's 3rd, while "My Sharona" falls flat!

Sorry ... I haven't had taste for "pop musick" since 1972! Most of it is boring! But I'm not sure that many folks here know what that means!

You know, it IS very well known (based on listening to the radio stations) that there really are only 100 Classic Rock songs...

And you're too stoned and ripped to know the difference in music, and will suck up to it because you don't know what else to do?

I think I know you better than that! You, at least, listen to other things.

Segue for you Craig: Amon Duul 2's "Apocalyptic Bore" (Vive La Trance) and Scorpions "Fly to the Rainbow" (same album- title cut!). Both apparently recorded at the same time, one saying, I'm done with dope, and the other saying ... time to party! Very cool juxtaposition. Even better than the apples and oranges discussion on another thread!
