they need to let someone that's not over the age of 50 put that list together.

I suspect the list would not be all that different. As much as we like to consider ourselves so above it, the vast majority of people tend to go with the status quo. Most of these "greatest" albums list turn out very similar.  Collectively we often repeat what our peers and forerunners deemed great and it usually takes a few generations to be free of that.  My son will name athletes dead before he was born when talking about the greatest of all time, not because he sat in a lab and crunched some comparative numbers , but because he has heard countless relatives and sports pundits proclaim it so. In a culture dominated by baby boomers, this list is going to stay the same for awhile.  I highly doubt the likes of Benny Goodman or Mozart became less great in the past 50 years.  They are just not the dominant music of the dominant age demographic.

such lists are impossible to achieve and vary each week, but there are a core of albums I will always listen to. Bands like Iron Maiden, Emperor, Dream Theater, Morbid Angel, Anathema...

Got to think now.

Dream Theater - Dream Theater (2013)
Jethro Tull - TAAB 2
Black Sabbath- 13

what do you think of the new DT? - I really really like it, my favourite from them since Scenes from a Memory...

Thought I'd add some to the list while I try to make any sense out of age having anything to do with recognizing or creating great music...

How about...

Romantic Warrior
Big Bamboo
Land Of The Midnight Sun
Finger Paintings

My reality is that "great albums" are alright but they are just pale in comparison to the video concerts/performances that weren't around when I was "into" albums. Not only fantastic audio with them but also excellent video...nothing like getting the full package IMO.
People can state all the quality opinions they want but I never owned any audio equipment or material on media that came close to what I'm experiencing now with Blu-ray concerts and my DAW.
Maybe defining "greatest" is really the confusing part for me...not age.

Hey!  I've got all of those mentioned above.  Sabbath and Tull were good, but more of a "completionist" buy.  I got the new DT about three weeks ago (with the new Paul McCartney album).  I played Sir Paul's offering once, but I've played DT's about half-a-dozen times (probably more).  It's been awhile since I've listened to Emperor, Morbid Angel or Anathema.  Sometimes I forget about a band then get pleasantly surprised when something reminds me to play 'em.

I'm sorry Craig. Cheech and Chong  spelling *bambu* - I guess auto correct got it and I didn't notice.
I should have listed artist with title but figured they were well known.
Al Di Meola and Earl Klugh.
Glad I didn't try to list 100 of what I think were great.
