I don't think it makes any sense to list albums from all genres - it gets too confusing and there are rap albums on that list that I wouldn't even listen to let alone buy or rate as top anything.  However, that goes both ways.  I can think of trance and techno albums that are better than entries on that list, but they won't rank highly when combined with lists made from the usual suspect genres!  Of course, then, it opens up that big can of worms as to agreeing on a list of genres in the first place.

Also, should the voting include "Best Of" albums?  Some bands used to put out an entire record on the strength of one popular song.  After about eight albums of this, they can then put together one killer Best Of album!  Hehe...

Simples... do "The Best Rock Albums of All time"

The engineering quality of Boston's first album alone (IMO) is an all time best.

I agree with you, Craig.  However, I enjoy reading the discussions that arise from these lists.  Especially the lists compiled by our friends here in the CH.  Those lists remind me of some CD's I already have that I haven't listened to in a while.  Other list items may inspire me to find some new music.  Sure, they may be comparing apples to oranges, but I don't think it's such a bad thing as long as we recognize it.

+1. I like to know what fellow forumites listen to and enjoy, I've discovered several 'new' bands that way.

Such memories! I'm seeing albums and bands I haven't heard in 40 years. I've seen Wishbone Ash 3 times live. What a great band they were. I'm saving all this so I can start re-listening to all the music! This is quite a gift guys! Thanks to all!

Talk about coincidence!

I was fortunate enough this afternoon to have the time to watch a programme I'd recorded a month or so ago, "Prog at the BBC".

One of the featured artists was..................Wishbone Ash!

They did a live version of "Vas Dis" from their 2nd Album, Pilgrimage in the BBC studio.

Great times...

FWIW, I've always considered that THE 100 Best albums of all time were not necessarily my 100 favorites, and that some of the things that are at the top of my list just don't belong on there.

Mr Bungle's California which is one of my top albums ever doesn't belong on THE top 100, whereas Hotel California - which I abhor - does deserve a spot.

Putting together my own top 50 should be an interesting experience though.

Make no mistake, I'm really getting a lot out of this thread for many of the same reasons mentioned above.  I'm both finding artists that I've still managed to miss and I'm getting reminded of albums that I haven't listened to for a long time that need to be played.

And, as some of you may have noticed (though I really doubt anyone cares), I still haven't started that separate, related, thread yet.  So, I guess I should just do it and not over-think it!
