Well, you had me pretty excited for a minute, Nigel. Then I got the details...no updates to sound sources or patches, just the executable. And it's a minor release, from 1.5.6d to 1.5.7d. AAX and sandboxed AU support, yawn.

Includes the following new enhancements:
• Support for Pro Tools AAX 64-bit platform
• "All Spectrasonics" Directory (browse all Spectrasonics sounds without third party tagging interference.)
• Directory Menu Separator between Factory/User Libraries
• Live and Stack dimming when not in use
Includes fixes for the following:
• Interim support for sandboxed audio unit hosts (Garageband X/Logic X)
• Browser view mode crash in Pro Tools 11
• Copy/paste layer not disabled on multi page
• OSX Cursor problems
• Waveshaper crash with high input levels
• Layer link status saved in patch
• Sustain 2 mode
• Live mode dragged slot save/restore
• Search field requiring multiple clicks
• Mixer pan routing after part effects
• Filter Modulation Aliasing
• Filter preset menus interference
• Multi browser steppers
• Reference Guide link to online manual

Oh well they say they're busy working on something new for the new year - we shall just have to wait......

NOTE: Before installing the update, you must agree to NOT use your Spectrasonics product for "Non-music use".

No mention of who will make the determination as to whether one's creation qualifies as "music" or "non-music", though.

Spec' always had that language in their agreement.  I think it's printed in the hard copy of the installation guides where your serial number is written.

essentially they don't want people selling off their samples.  poorly worded but nothing that hasn't been there before.

I find these kind of things interesting.

I sent their support a query about using Omnisphere for sound effects.
Their answer was, we'd have to know exactly what you're doing - as in they'd want me to

- send them copies of the sounds
- with a decsription of how it was made
- and exactly how it would be used or sold
so they could decide if it's OK or not.

Hmm - after much reading through their various documents, Licenses, FAQs etc. here's what I determined as "reasonably clear cut" (but hey ... it may not be :-)

- If the sound you make uses only the built in oscilators as the sound source, you can do pretty much what you'd like.
- If the sound uses any samples in the sound source, you must seek clarification (and/or) permission.

And many of the patch comments (Notes) make reference to things like 'great for sound design", which you have to wonder if you're actually allowed to do using that patch, since most of them use sample based sound sources.

Get's a bit confusing to say the least.

Cheers - Cliff

Oh, I know why they do it. I just thought it was funny.

Half the samples in Omnisphere sound as though they're intended for sci-fi horror film ambiance. Many of them are only useful in solo, as they do not blend well with other instruments in a mix. IOW, non-musical.
