My girlfriend is 24 and American. I've just introduced her to the brilliance of John Cleese via Fawlty Towers, which she had never even heard of until I suggested we watch it on Netflix. She thinks it's the best thing ever and falls into hysterics every time she sees Manuel...plus Sybil's laugh when she's on the phone: "na-a-a-a-a-a-a....I know!"

She has been clamoring for British comedy since we've been watching Peep Show together, which she thinks is hilarious as well. I really want to introduce her to more of the classics but I'm not sure how she'd react to Monty Python....she wasn't having any of Blackadder, despite me trying to lure her in with Hugh Laurie as the Prince Regent. Nor would she watch any more of the League of Gentlemen after one episode...just a little bit too surreal and freaky for her tastes. So Monty Python? It's surreal yes, but not so much freaky as just plain ridiculous....might give it a go tonight.

I wonder if the Black Sabbath press conference was as entertainingly incoherent.

I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquistion...

I was glad to hear about the MP reunion.  More good news.  While they didn't have plans for other shows, they left the door open for that possibility too.

I think it's a terrible idea. Python was very much 'of it's day' IMO. Moments of sheer genius of course, but also a lot of self-indulgent rubbish. Fawlty Towers has stood the test of time because of the writing..every line and scene is honed to perfection, nothing wasted or overdone.

Yeah, I agree with everything you say here. I think some things are best left alone. I also heard today of the "new" Open all Hours that is being made - just can't see it working without Ronnie Barker and a 73 yr old Granville.

I must admit I cringed when I heard that too..what's the point of re-visiting a show without the main character?
