Hi Everyone
I hope I can explaine this and we can find a solution cause this is a first for me.

1. My computer specs are in my signature so please refer there for this info.
2. I see in the Tech Support section that Cake is no longer supporting X1 so I am going to have to rely on the feed back here.
3. this issue is strictly limited to Sonar X1
4. I do have Reaper and this is NOT an issue here. I have tried already.
5. I have played the VST's I can in stand alone and again it is not an issue. I have tried.
6. .This issue is not limited to only one manufacturer EVERY VST is acting the same way. Meaning , Cake VST's (Rapture, Dim Pro, Pentagon, Studio Instruments, session Drummer etc..), NI VST's like Kontakt, Battery Three, Massive, FM8 etc....Toontracks, EZ DRummer and Superior Drummer etc....you get the idea.
7. This is not a cable issue. I have checked it at both ends and if it works in one application and not another then it is not a cable issue.
8. I have already rescanned my plug-in in the plug in manager with no success.
9. I have gone into the preferences menu and checked and double checked both the aduio and midi sections and everything is checked as it should be.
10 I have started several new projects with the same result.
11. I have rebooted the computer several times and still have the same result
12. I have tried on several different days with the same result.
13. I have cleaned and defragged the HD's and then rescanned the Plug-ins.....same result
14. All software is Legal, Registerd, bought and paid for. No cracked or illegal software on my machine.
15. I am out of idea's here

Here is the issue
I open Sonar
Start a new project
Insert soft synth. let's just say for instance DimPro for talking (All VST's Act the same way)
DimPro Shows up
I can select a patch no problem
*****If I Play my physical keyboard on my 49 note keyboard / midi controller I get no sound*******
If I take my mouse and use the pointer to click on the virtual DimPro keyboard I get sound.

At first I thought cable must be loose.....check it....nope....I close sonar and open DimPro in stand alone....Play my physical 49 note keyboard after selecting the very same patch.....I get sound........

I open sonar, Insert DimPro....select the very same patch....play Physical keyboard.....no sound.....use mouse pointer to play virtual keyboard and I get sound........

Close Sonar

Open Reaper
Insert DimPro
Select the very same patch
Play Physical keyboard
I Get sound.....

This happens with EVERY VST I have......
Any idea's?

As I said this is strictly limited to Sonar...Reaper acts fine. and it is not limited to any one manufacturer. All are at the very same mercy of no sound when playing the physical keyboard.

It is driving me crazy so ANY help would be appreciated.
Like I said this is a first for me.

Thank you very much
Clifford

Yeah I know your correct......But what a beginner mistake to make....

But I guess when you get wrapped around the axle looking for all the hard stuff that is wrong it ends up being the simplest and most obvious that is the reason which slips our logic!!!!!!!

Advil it is......

But I still msut check this out when I get home.....I think I checked it but you know .......anything is possible.....This is exactly why they say it is always nice to have a second pair of eyes on it!

Thanks guys!

I hear ya Clifford. I also learned this the hard way........checked everything else but the obvious.....(at least it wasn't obvious at the time). It was definitely frustrating when one little button can make your whole music creativity come to a halt.

(I hope that's all it is for you......)

I agree....to think One silly little button.....
Your so correct...and with me you can always count on one thing............Operator Error~!!!!!

OK
I solved it!!!!

Um...about the Input Monitor button....
I did have it turned on.....but I tried so many things I just forgot about that one...But it was a great suggestion!!!!! :-)

What it was is when you insert a softsynth, then you get to choose your weapon of choice and then next comes the dialog box to configure it.....meaning do you want a simple instrument track or do you want one with a mono out put or stereo out put etc.....

Well the last choice is "Enable Midi output" and if that box is NOT checked......guess what.......that's right ....nothing works.............

I usually do not have to touch anything is this box cause I use the same configuration all the time so I just blow by it.......and think nothing of it.....and everything is fine

Well last night I went step by step very slowly and althought I did not RTFM I DID however, read the box verbage and check the box "enable midi output" and guess what...........it worked.....

So again chalk it up to operator error and I thank you guys for the help.....I think just writing it out and having you guys make suggestions helped relive some of the stress I was creating for myself and having me become blinded.....

thank you all very much

Glad you figured it out Clifford.......(yep, that's another little thing that I also take for granted and hardly ever take a close look at when inserting a synth).

If anything at all, this little exercise has definitely resurged your knowledge in troubleshooting.

Thanks Brother
Yeah, teachs me to look at the simple stuff first......

But now I do feel better cause I have a student that we did some recording in X1 last week and I needed a Keyboard to figure some parts out and now I can......!!!!!

Also I  am kicking my self for not upgrading to X3 when it was $150.00.....I am hoping that it will go on sale Christmas week.....(the one with Melodyene)....keeping fingers and toes crossed.

Thanks again
Clifford
