I wonder if anybody recognises, or knows what might be causing this pop-up:

It's been appearing every now and then in Internet Explorer 10 for a couple of days now.

As it takes focus away from the screen below, I have to select 'No' to carry on using IE.

The add-on Toolbars I have (knowingly) installed on IE are as follows:
  • Avast
  • Google
  • Nectar Points
  • AVG
I've run RKill and a full Malwarebytes scan but to no avail.

If it helps at all, RKill terminated these processes:
  • C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Local\Akamai\netsession_win.exe
  • C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Local\Akamai\netsession_win.exe
  • C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Dropbox\bin\Dropbox.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IELowutil.exe

Thanks in advance of any help and advise as to what to do, or how to find out what is causing this pop-up to appear or where I should look to find it on my PC.

Never seen it - I'd do a Google search for it.

Hi,

Honestly, you do not need toolbars like those listed and I would remove them from your computer.

I don't get it. If your computer is for music, why do you have those addons on it? It will hurt, however minimally, your processing power ability ... while also taking up time on your connection.

Take ALL of those extra addons out! Watch your computer behave just fine! I can not understand how we can be so gullible about some tool for our computers that supposedly makes you take a **** easier!

My guess is that some toolbar came bundled with software and is technically not a virus. It may just be one of the toolbars you know of updating itself. Try uninstalling all the ones you listed and see if the popups stop.

You can go to the Control Panel and remove most of these. However, the ones inbedded into a program are more difficult. Ex: Nvidia has the "Experience" thing which is not needed. Ex: Google has 10k addons, and you don't need any of them as they only make sure they get the hits they want to collect their money!.

Well any legitimate programmer who either fails to indicate in the popup which application is generating it (all too common but nonetheless really bad practice) or assumes that he has written the only version of anything that might be referred to as "toolbar," deserves to have it ignored. It does sound very suspicious of being malware. I would not download any update announced in this manner

Disable all the toolbars and see what happens.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it

So far, I've uninstalled IE10 and rolled back to IE9, and I haven't had the pop-up appear since.

I'll try re-installing IE10 (or maybe 11) and see if it reappears.

One of the reasons I'm still running IE9 though I'm also having to run FireFox for some sites that are no longer compatible with IE9 (like my bank and the site I use to create a client's online store).

Gotta love progress.  NOT.
