I am a Windows 7 PC user and have two questions.

1) What file backup software works, and which to avoid, whether free or paid?  The easier to use, the better as far as I'm concerned.

and...

2) What do you backup to: external hard drive; optical media; flash drive?

Thanks for all of your input.

I use acronic and back up to external hard drive. I like it because it backs up the whole thing including operating system , so if any trouble you dont have to reload each program ect...but I think you can do that from windows without paying anything

That will be "Acronis" not Acronic...I use it for ghosting and backups, very easy to use.

It seems like I heard a little grousing about the newest version of Acronis. I too need to address this but does the new version work as well as always? Is True Image what we need to buy? Do you back all your drives up to ne really big external drive or do you back up each drive to its own external drive?
See... I have questions too!

Acronis has saved me from catastrophe. It's easy to use. I tried uninstalling something about 6 months ago that created havoc on my who system. When that happened I was able to roll back to a full restore of everything painlessly with Acronis. I became a fan for life after that.
