As a matter of fact, they have a way of distracting me. I know a whole lot of musicians, artists out there who hears the compliments and thinks "wow, I must have been really great" and so they get fat and satisfied and they get lost and forget about their actual talent and start living in another world.

For these turkeys and these cheap contests, do one of these two:
 
Yeti from Amon Duul 2 -- lead guitar original by John Weinzierl (Fender!) Can you handle doing it for 18 minutes?
 
Ball and Chain -- Big Brother and the Holding Company -- the late James Gurley, teaches everyone in the world what to do with a loud guitar, that everyone in London went on to copy and emulate! (not sure what he played!)
 
If that's not good enough, you really need to look at "Adagietto" by Terje Rypdal. It was a Fender, though, just like Jimi's!
 
You can always try and emulate Jeff-copy Beck and do an aria ... but a German one instead of an Italian one. Or you can grab something from Carmen (Bizet! instead of Bapu!!!), and that would be more original.
