From the pic it looks like a Neve compressor will be next.

What "legenday British compressor" is the new compressor emulating?

Oh cool, the Neve 33609!  Will be comparing this to the UAD version for sure.

I personally couldn't care less about IK's abandonware (hee hee), but this new Neve emulation is pretty dang good.  It sounds nearly identical to the UAD version.  And its GUI is easier to deal with.

HOWEVER, there's the question of whether you need this plugin, given all the other high-quality options out there.  IK is billing this as a great bus compressor, and it may be, but don't they already have a plugin called ... "BUS COMPRESSOR"?  I think that one (an SSL emulation) is just as good as this Neve.  Do you need both?  I don't think I do.  Not to mention all the excellent offerings from Slate, UAD, Waves, and other vendors.  Help, plugin overload!

I won't even get into the whole "IK Way" of selling products.  Suffice it to say that it had better be something I MUST HAVE for me to bother jumping through all their hoops.  Not to mention that you can't even find the price of these things (in actual money) from their website.  Who else does that?  Answer: nobody.

One more thing, and I'll stop (I promise):  those of you who like having the option of selling your plugins on the used market should know that these T-RackS singles bought through the Custom Shop are NOT FOR RESALE.  You can't transfer them to anybody else, ever.  Better make sure you use your oh-so-generous 3-day demo wisely, cuz if you buy it, you're stuck with it.

Good products obscured by loopy business practices.  That's the thing with IK.

Cheers,
Eddie

Right on Eddie TX! Well said! I know both of us are OverTone DSP users and IK should emulate their business model. Excellent plugins at a reasonable cost with no gimmicks! Did you download the IK compressor demo? Any thoughts? I have so many compressors, I can't imagine needing another but I'm not too familiar with the Neve sound.

You can't be tu sure about IK and their gestapo practices. Say what you want about Cakewalk, even on their frorum, but IK will delete your posts if you voice something negative about them or their product. Had I known that in advance, I would have steered clear of their products. A shame too. They make good products.

Yes, I tried the IK Neve compressor.  But as with all things IK, it's not so simple as "downloading the demo" -- it involves updating and installing the entire Custom Shop app, which makes even Waves' scheme look easy as pie.  Man, if IK's model were as easy as OverTone's, I'd be their #1 fan.  But they figure that what's good for Amplitube must be good for T-RackS.  I don't know about you, but I use guitar amps and effects much differently than mixing and mastering tools.

Anyway, yes the Neve compressor sounds very good, as do many other IK products.  But IMHO it doesn't do anything so different from other compressor plugins that it's essential.  If you're REALLY a compressor connoisseur, you may very well love it.  But I can personally live without it.

Cheers,
Eddie

(Edit: I should have mentioned the Klanghelm DC8C as a good alternative to many compressors.  A Swiss Army knife, it can handle just about any compression task you might need.  And get this: only 20 euros!)

Its in our ULA agreement when you sign on. The forums aren't meant for support so if you have any issues with IK (Negative comments, we've had racist comments, downright nasty ones) please take it up with our contact us form or our support. Its all laid out when you sign up.

As for our Bus Compressor Vs our new Precision Compressor / Limiter then yeah I can see why you'd compare them. 1 being clean and "gluey" while the newer one being "thick" and "warm" sounding. It definitely imparts a beautiful colored tone to your mixes and sounds great when paired with a tube EQ like the one found in T-Racks.
