they're touting it as something "spectacular"...
I certainly wouldn't bet on it....as I've stated before, if it's not the BE ALL AND END ALL
of Samplers..they might as well just "shut the line down"

Don't agree.  I'm going to suggest that ST3 merely has to be a) solid b) easy to use and c) not overly expensive to upgrade.  Why?  I, like a whole lot of others (I assume) have a deep collection of samples in the ST proprietary format.  That will motivate an upgrade all by itself.  If ST3 also happens to be spectacular, so much the better.  But I'll acquire ST3 even if it's only got an improved GUI, works in 64-bit and doesn't cost a ridiculous amount.

And seeing how the Virtual Instruments collection have been on sale for so long, there must be a lot of people who will upgrade just to be able to access that stuff. Even though I wasn't terribly interested in the rest of their libraries besides SampleTron, w/ the constant sales at ridiculous prices, I eventually bought all of them.

Given a reasonable upgrade price and admitting that it comes out as expected, it's obvious that I'll upgrade even if only to play back my existing libraries.

My sampler is Logic's own EXS-24. Every other one is merely used as a vehicle for specific libraries, including Kontakt, for all it's incredible features. and I think that a lot of people are using those samplers like SampleTank or Kontakt just like me. In such a case, there's no need for anyone to come up w/ a Kontakt killer.

I really wish you hadn't mentioned Gigasampler - you have reminded me this is another product I got caught with!!!!!!!

Sorry Nigel!
FWIW, A lot of us got caught up in GigaStudio.

Say ST3 was already released:
What are your expectations?
Kontakt has the bar set pretty high. Almost impossibly high to actually "kompete" against it...
Look at how long HALion was "dormant". (I'm guessing for the same reason)
It's a huge task.

For better or worse, Kontakt is the standard by which all new soft-samplers will be judged.
If ST3 doesn't directly compete with Kontakt (large scripted libraries), it has to offer enough niche features to be a successful alternative.
ie: Independence offers some nice features... but it just hasn't caught on. No scripting... and not a lot of unique features (compared to Kontakt)

In a board of directors meeting, pitching the idea of "developing a product to compete with Kontakt" would be a hard sell.

I don't feel the animosity expressed above...
But at the risk of sounding like an old man, I miss the older days.
The beginning of the DAW revolution... when companies were new/small and there was close communication/interaction with the user base.
The industry has moved to more of a larger/corporate structure (to survive)... which puts distance between developer and user.

Nice to see a voice of reason, Jim.

They came out with new things for Amplitube (and still are...before ST 3) and I didn't buy any of it...nor will I.

The problem is that the most are OCD...they'll buy whatever is released...regardless of what the company does...
and the Companies realize this..so they do whatever they please...

Personally, I am really stingy with my bucks.  I won't buy anything unless I can demo it.  I am not really brand loyal to much, if it is exceptional quality and reasonably priced, it has a chance of earning my dollar.  Software and software companies change so fast, that the minute you buy something, it is almost obsolete.  I want to make sure that what I buy, I am satisfied with at the time of the purchase.  I don't buy anything hoping that it will get better or expecting to get a free up grade.  It is nice when you do, but there are no guarantees.  Obviously, I look at track record as well.  I just try to be a wise shopper and not get caught up in the "GAS", having to have something because it is the latest and greatest.

I have EVERY SampleTank, etc...expansion out there...bought 'em all....don't care...
I'll convert them if I have to ...and there are a lot of ways to do it...

As I stated...most can't help themselves...they'd spend their money on poop if they thought it was gold...
and these companies know this...that's why they just tell the one's who do "call them out" to just go away...
they know that many will buy regardless...Politicians use the same principle...somewhere, somehow, SOMEONE
has to put them in their place...I know it won't be me...but if I start the boulder rolling it WILL catch them...eventually...

There's NOTHING in the IK line that you can't find comparable with, or better then...
So I stand my ground....

Yep, I bought most of them too.  I'm betting a whole lot of folks have the same story to tell.

What ways?  Maybe you've discovered something I have not.  But at one point I did a little research to see if there were any converters available.  I couldn't find anything that would transfer the ST propetary format into something more generally accessable.

I'm not talking about a playback/resample solution, by the way.  That would be *way* too much work, even if I had some automated solution (and I know there's at least one out there that does that sort of thing).

IK Obi
Guitarpima
My only beef with IK is the forum. Why even have a forum if your members can't help if you have a problem. I know all about the "you have to contact CS". The thing is, what if your working and could use the information quickly and someone on the forum can help with the problem and your back in business? Your CS seems awfully busy since IK Obi will get your ticket number and fast track you. It is nice oh him to do that but honestly, why should he have to?  It seems to me that you can alleviate the work load of CS by letting people help each other on the forum. That's what I love about the Cakewalk forum. The good news is your mods over at IK are better at keeping the BS from getting out of hand but not all of it's BS.

I hope you do get ST3 out this year. A lot of people have been waiting for a long time. I hope it's legible. I'm tired of buying software that's to hard to read.

This is the only point I will make, as this thread has just run its course.

Our support department prides itself on a less than 24 hour resolution period. (Save for weekends/holidays)
I check into tickets to see where the process may be and bring it to the support managers attention, but way more often than not its resolved by support on their own.

Sorry for this crazy thread going all crazy. Sorry if I offended people. We are trying, whether you believe it or not. SampleTank 3 is coming.
