No, not a slang word at all - in proper English an ass is a kind of donkey. Americans for some reason find writing arse too much for them so incorrectly use ass instead to describe their backsides. This is why I don't consider it offensive in a religious sense at all. If anything it's a dig at Amercian ignorance/mis-spelling and the fact that the press will always get a headline out of something when they want to.

 Hey Steve maybe I'm guilty too. I like to kid and maybe I have done the same thing at times without even realizing it. I'm a big enough man to admit that if I have done it and apologize to anyone I might have offended.
 
 As I see it though you are judging me based on a priciple from a Judeo Christian ethic which if you follow reason you shouldn't believe in. The old Beam in my eye looking at the splinter in my brothers eye concept. You don't believe in the God who came up with the concept. Why would you be using His rules?
 
 Paulo we all know what an ass is in either context and that was the whole idea for the joke.If you had only mean't it old english literal way then the joke would have had no context. If I'm easily offended then so be it. I'll roll with it either way.

I may not be "proper" but in the US a jackass is a male ass or donkey and a female is usually referred to as a jenny.
"jackass" takes the question of  what genre is that ass out of it...."jenny"....talking about Jennys' ass could ones proper ass kicked....or is that arse?

Personally, I would have noted that the title was missing an apostrophe that shows the ass belongs to the pastor.

Speedtom clearly didn't, but as you have just said yourself the joke is the word and misinterpretation of it, not because it is about people who pratice religion, so you reporting me for sharing it is petty in the extreme - not to mention hypocritical unless you also unnecessarily reported that whole other thread which you seemed happy to participate in.
 
Anyway, I'm not going to apologise because it isn't a slight on Catholics per se (of which you are not one) but a reflection of how the press will always get a headline if they want to.
 
Did you read the moral of the story before you became unnecessarily offended on behalf of Catholics ?
