They have introduced a very similar scheme where I currently work, in Airbus UK.

Everyone on site (9000+ employees/contractors) have all had to attend lengthy team discussions on this very subject.

Once again, it's PC gone mad (no, not the Pro Channel!)

Wow!  All the more reason I work for myself (albeit for very little income - lol!).

I think for me this all tied into the other discussion and since we hardly or seldom ever make fun of any religion here the timing to the other discussion was unavoidable. The whole idea of the joke and the attempted avoidance of the obvious slam to Catholics everywhere is also unavoidable. I don't care how many shovels you use to try and dig out of it.

There was no "timing" - someone emailed me a joke yesterday ( that one more time....isn't even about religion) while I was browsing the forum and I thought I would share it with some people who would proabably appreciate it. End of.

By the way, that other discussion you refer to......would that be the one in which you repeatedly break the same TOS that you felt so keen to uphold here ? Funny how you keep avoiding that subject.

To you so called Christians who see nothing wrong with it. What would your limit be here?

So, anyone who doesn't wholly agree with you, but has religious beliefs is only a "so called Christian" ? Really ??

The idea that I am told what should or should not offend me is also absurd

Yet, here you are telling everyone that they should be offended.

starise

At this point I'm done with much more comment on the issue.

Yeah, that would probably be best or you might make yourself look a bit more of a donkey

"I've said it before and I'll say it again - the whole concept of being "offended" is a load of crap. People claim they're "offended" for one reason only - so they can elevate themselves into a position of moral superiority and chastise someone else, which they thoroughly enjoy."  I think we all  have at one time been offended, yourself included.Imagine someone close to you like a family member you really like and then imagine me making  innuendos and jokes about them in a way that seems to be derogatory. You can't tell me you wouldn't be offended and protective. Imagine me giving you the equivalent of spit in your face. If I started to clown about your girl friend or wife how would you feel? I don't think you would walk off laughing and thinking I was just having my fun. At the very least you would probably be having a few words with me and I would deserve it. As I see it, what you have said is no one else is allowed to ever be offended about anything, that is unless I step on your toes. In that case I guess you have a right to be offended.  I agree with Rain here that I see some corruption in the institution that is the Catholic faith, but I also see a lot of good well meaning people in that particular faith who would never hurt a flea. To you so called Christians who see nothing wrong with it. What would your limit be here? How about we urinate on your pews would that do it for you? How about we reword your Biblical terms and make it all some kind of obscene joke?   At this point I'm done with much more comment on the issue. I would compare it to making a joke about obese people while sitting in front of one. Maybe one obese guy would laugh right back but maybe someone else who has been battling the condition for years might be offended.   The very idea that noone should ever be offended is absurd and doesn't work in the real world. The idea that I am told what should or should not offend me is also absurd. Thats sounds more like control to me than someone who is offended supposedly taking some kind of moral high ground, which I'll take the right to think that this is absurd. I'll get offended at whatever I want ;) and you won't tell me what that is. The herd mentality doesn't work on me.  I hope I haven't offended anyone, but I probably did.

I think it's possible to feel "hurt" when someone insults you or a loved one personally, but let's face it this whole concept of "offense" is something entirely different. The whole concept of feeling offense because someone made a joke about some tribe or group that you belong to is total BS. I stand by what I said - the reason why such "offense" is commonplace is because people use it as a political weapon. It gives them leverage to obtain sympathy and ultimately legislation in their favor.

As for people being offended by words like "ass," well that's just too ridiculous for words. It's a part of the human body everyone has. You're probably sitting on one now. Being offended by a word is so arbitrary. Where does it end? Can I just choose a collection of letters and declare that I'm offended by them? Life is way too short to feel offended and there are way more important things to worry about.

If I didn't know better Sharke I would think you sound offended here.

Lol - nice try!

I can't believe that someone thinks my whole issue was with the word "ass". Where did you ever read that and where did you ever see me type it? Go back and read the bold type on the joke and then tell me it was only about a word.

PASTORS ASS OUT FRONT
NUN SELLS ASS FOR 10$
NUN HAS NICE ASS

Yeah I'm not sure how anyone would ever really think this might be a bad thing. The second post, the one that says P*WF is a little telling. Public nudity and prostitution are all ok with you guys even if it happens to be a nun and a pastor. Poor Paulo never had a clue, God bless his soul. What was I thinking

Stummy you are right of course, I did use extremes in my example to Leadfoot. Usually those extremes would warrant a more firm approach. My point is , how far does one go before its considered to be offensive and who makes that call. I would say it's up to the individual to make that call. You or Leadfoot can't make that call and neither can anyone else. You can state what you think seems appropriate. I wouldn't feel comfortable in making a judgement about what should or should not offend you.

"Well, 'offense' is, quite obviously, a very personal thing."
 Well said Strummy.

Sharke-"I think it's possible to feel "hurt" when someone insults you or a loved one personally, but let's face it this whole concept of "offense" is something entirely different.  I'll say it again, this has nothing to do with the word ass. I agree Sharke, people use offense in order to sometimes gain entitlement. At a Diner someone says," My steak isn't well done, I'm upset, I want a free meal".To a contractor someone says, " You dinged my wall, I'm not paying for the job".Both examples claim an offense in order to gain something free at the expense of the offender. What would I hope to gain by saying something has offended me on the CH? I don't see how you could even make that connection.

Hurt and offense go hand in hand.To say that the way the offense came is unreasonable is to make a rule that doesn't exist for anyone but yourself.People fight all the time over their teams at a football or soccer game. Would you say that this is BS? FWIW I've been over this now for awhile but if you want to keep at it I'll keep on explaining my position.

Paulo-"By the way, that other discussion you refer to......would that be the one in which you repeatedly break the same TOS that you felt so keen to uphold here ? Funny how you keep avoiding that subject.

What am I avoiding? Where do you see me avoiding something? Ryan clearly was here since we started this discussion. He has every right to stop anything here he wants to, or whoever it is that regulates these posts. You are right here, we should both be banned if you go strictly by the rules. We both delved into religious territory as did some others, depending on how you classify that. Many here have said what they believe. Is that a violation of the TOS? Religion either pro or con is a discussion of religion. In one thread you have people discussing it and in another thread you have people slamming it, but that was never intended according to you.

"So, anyone who doesn't wholly agree with you, but has religious beliefs is only a "so called Christian" ? Really ??"

I'm not judging Leadfoots beliefs. He did throw me right under the bus though. Not the kind of thing you usually do to a brother. Not usually characteristic of people who stick together.I don't really know what he believes. Maybe he thinks I'm a "so called christian" because this bothered me. If he does, fine.

"Yet, here you are telling everyone that they should be offended."

I never did that. I said "I" was offended.

"Yeah, that would probably be best or you might make yourself look a bit more of a donkey"

Sorry Paulo, I've given up the 3rd grade comebacks...so by all means see what else you can come up with *yawn*

Tim - just a tip - use the 'quote' button if you want to copy what someone has said, and it will identify them in the top r/h corner of the quote . If you want to quote someone else in the same reply, just scroll to their text and hit 'quote' again.

It would make your posts a lot easier to follow.

Erm. there is no nudity, there is no prostitution. Once again ....it's a story about a donkey and how the press will twist words to get themselves a headline whatever the powers that be do to try and stop them.

What am I avoiding? Where do you see me avoiding something?

I've yet to see you explain how you justify feeling compelled to report me for what only you percieve as a violation of the TOS, in order to adhere to those TOS whilst repeatedly and knowingly violating them in another thread.

Starise
 I'm not judging Leadfoots beliefs.

Again......in your own words........."To you so called Christians who see nothing wrong with it"..... Kind of says that you think they should see something wrong with it, does it not ?

Carry on making a fool of yourself of you want to. I'm done ;)

How can mention of a religious person's job be offensive?

And why on earth should a nun or a pastor be somehow entitled to automatic respect, and to be exempt from being made the subject of a joke?

Unless, of course, you have the misfortune of living in a country which still considers blasphemy a crime.

Again, apologies for my naivety in these obviously sensitive matters Tim, but I just don't understand any of this kerfuffle
