I can't believe that someone thinks my whole issue was with the word "ass". Where did you ever read that and where did you ever see me type it? Go back and read the bold type on the joke and then tell me it was only about a word.
PASTORS ASS OUT FRONT
NUN SELLS ASS FOR 10$
NUN HAS NICE ASS
Yeah I'm not sure how anyone would ever really think this might be a bad thing. The second post, the one that says P*WF is a little telling. Public nudity and prostitution are all ok with you guys even if it happens to be a nun and a pastor. Poor Paulo never had a clue, God bless his soul. What was I thinking
Stummy you are right of course, I did use extremes in my example to Leadfoot. Usually those extremes would warrant a more firm approach. My point is , how far does one go before its considered to be offensive and who makes that call. I would say it's up to the individual to make that call. You or Leadfoot can't make that call and neither can anyone else. You can state what you think seems appropriate. I wouldn't feel comfortable in making a judgement about what should or should not offend you.
"Well, 'offense' is, quite obviously, a very personal thing."
Well said Strummy.
Sharke-"I think it's possible to feel "hurt" when someone insults you or a loved one personally, but let's face it this whole concept of "offense" is something entirely different. The whole concept of feeling offense because someone made a joke about some tribe or group that you belong to is total BS. I stand by what I said - the reason why such "offense" is commonplace is because people use it as a political weapon. It gives them leverage to obtain sympathy and ultimately legislation in their favor.
As for people being offended by words like "ass," well that's just too ridiculous for words. It's a part of the human body everyone has. You're probably sitting on one now. Being offended by a word is so arbitrary. Where does it end? Can I just choose a collection of letters and declare that I'm offended by them? Life is way too short to feel offended and there are way more important things to worry about."
I'll say it again, this has nothing to do with the word ass. I agree Sharke, people use offense in order to sometimes gain entitlement. At a Diner someone says," My steak isn't well done, I'm upset, I want a free meal".To a contractor someone says, " You dinged my wall, I'm not paying for the job".Both examples claim an offense in order to gain something free at the expense of the offender. What would I hope to gain by saying something has offended me on the CH? I don't see how you could even make that connection.
Hurt and offense go hand in hand.To say that the way the offense came is unreasonable is to make a rule that doesn't exist for anyone but yourself.People fight all the time over their teams at a football or soccer game. Would you say that this is BS? FWIW I've been over this now for awhile but if you want to keep at it I'll keep on explaining my position.
Paulo-"By the way, that other discussion you refer to......would that be the one in which you repeatedly break the same TOS that you felt so keen to uphold here ? Funny how you keep avoiding that subject.
What am I avoiding? Where do you see me avoiding something? Ryan clearly was here since we started this discussion. He has every right to stop anything here he wants to, or whoever it is that regulates these posts. You are right here, we should both be banned if you go strictly by the rules. We both delved into religious territory as did some others, depending on how you classify that. Many here have said what they believe. Is that a violation of the TOS? Religion either pro or con is a discussion of religion. In one thread you have people discussing it and in another thread you have people slamming it, but that was never intended according to you.
"So, anyone who doesn't wholly agree with you, but has religious beliefs is only a "so called Christian" ? Really ??"
I'm not judging Leadfoots beliefs. He did throw me right under the bus though. Not the kind of thing you usually do to a brother. Not usually characteristic of people who stick together.I don't really know what he believes. Maybe he thinks I'm a "so called christian" because this bothered me. If he does, fine.
"Yet, here you are telling everyone that they should be offended."
I never did that. I said "I" was offended.
"Yeah, that would probably be best or you might make yourself look a bit more of a donkey"
Sorry Paulo, I've given up the 3rd grade comebacks...so by all means see what else you can come up with *yawn*
