Prayer is ultimately a very selfish endeavour.

The vast majority of people pray for a favourable outcome to some specific situation that affects them and their loved ones.

"Please don't let my grandfather die a lingering death from leukaemia"

"Please let me get this job I'm being interviewed for tomorrow"

"Please let me win the lottery"

"Please abolish hunger, poverty, disease, war, cancer, malaria.... and my neighbour's tree that drops leaves into my garden every year"

It's a bit like writing your list for Santa.  Only the odds of getting the gifts you want for Christmas are pretty good.

@backwoods:  Sure, who could argue with Richard's premise that there's a lot of pseudo-science and "false experts"?  Again, that doesn't mean we throw out all well done science as well does it?  That can't be what your saying.  Is it?  And as to the catholic physicist, his findings speak more to his being a physicist than a catholic.  There are many great scientists who were and are "god believers".  Why one of the two fellers that figured out DNA coding is.  So what?  As you yourself just argued, some scientists get things wrong;-)

And, oh yeah, your passing remark about global warming "propaganda" made me remember a previous thread...you're the one who gets your info from Fox News, right?

Ryan Munnis [Cakewalk]
Guys, I mean no offense to anyone involved in this discussion, but the Cakewalk forums (yes even the Coffee house) are not a place for discussing nor arguing religion & politics. The only reason this even popped up on my radar is because of TOS violation reports.

I'm really sorry but we need to move on/take the discussion elsewhere. You guys are welcome to continue via PM, other message boards, etc. Please respect the fact that this is ultimately a forum for discussing music software and musical ideas. While we do stray from the subject often (and while the coffee house does exist for the purpose of general discussion), the TOS asks that we don't engage in debates around politics & religion.

Please respect this request.

I'm locking this thread for the fact that it goes against our TOS. Locking the thread is not aimed at silencing anyone's personal beliefs. Please understand.
