  • New ValhallaRoom algorithm? (p.2)

Both are great. However, considering that Valhalla is constantly upgraded with new algorithms, even at the same price, it would still be a better choice imho. At half the price it's a no-brainer.

And if anyone wants to learn to use and tweak a reverb, Valhalla Room w/ the no nonsense GUI and the description for what each parameters does is, imho again, the best place to start.

I love CSR, for some things it just seems to work - on toms, for some reason, I always end up w/ CSR. But Valhalla's my favorite, along with Lecicon MPX, which is one of those things that "just works".

Valhalla reverbs are indeed the best value around. You get 11 different algorithms (at the moment; 4 of those have been added since the initial product release) and all the tweaks you need. It'll handle anything from a wispy hint of ambiance to a 20-second deep-space Vangelis-type effect.

I'm really not a reverb gourmet. I'm from the "if you can hear it, it's too much" school, and what I like best about VRoom is how easily it can be made to dissolve into the mix. Except when I want the occasional tympani-in-a-cave effect. It excels at that, too.

Valhalla is money well spent! I use Vroom, Vintage and Ubermod on every project.

Does Valhalla Room self-update or do you have to go on the website and do it manually? I don't think I've ever downloaded an update since I've had it, although maybe there haven't been any...

No automatic updates. Sean will send an email with a link to the new version when it is ready. At least, that is how it has been handled in the past.

- New reverb mode: Dense Room.

Dense Room is basically what it sounds like. Similar to the Large Room algorithm, but a different delay spread, for a denser early echo density. Dense Room is technically "dark," in that it is downsampled, but it doesn't sound dark. Bright delay interpolation and a different High Cut filter slope result in a very clean sounding reverb. The Late Cross works a little differently, and can get some "left/right" ping pong movement at the highest settings. This is pretty subtle in reality. The Low Mult filtering works in a similar way to the LV-426 algorithm, and allows for a deeper spatial feel with longer decay times.

scook - thanks for posting the link.  It helps to read it straight from Sean.

LV-426 is my favorite, and where I usually start. I guess he's run out of Alien references.

From the same post as above Sean wrote:

Someone asked "why no Aliens name for the new algorithm?" The answer is that Prometheus sucked.

Surely there are more untapped obscure Alien references. How about "Goldsmith", after the film's composer? That would seem appropriate. But yeh, Prometheus did suck.
