Ed, you can do all that FG-X does without an iLok. In fact, you can do it now with the plugins you already own!

Hypothetically, would you buy a guitar that required a dongle? How about a car? A vacuum cleaner? A nose-hair trimmer?

Interesting that Pantheon was only Lexicon plugin that he didn't work on & refers to as a ' cheapie.'

His views on convolution reverb are too.
His 'Boy, doesn't he look natural' remark was brilliant!

I keep thinking that someday some must-have product will come along that requires iLok, and then I'll cave. But it hasn't happened yet. Certainly not in the reverb category anyway, where world-class non-iLok alternatives are especially plentiful.

That's what happened to me bit.

There was an offer about a year ago for EWQLSO Platinum Plus at a ridiculously low price, but it required an iLok, so I caved.

I sometimes forget it's plugged into the back of the machine.

For me, it requires no maintenance or anything, it just sits there

Phoenix Verb is something special.
It's absolutely the best algorithmic reverb plugin that I've heard.
Super smooth... even when auditioned on drum-kit.
Has that higher-end Lexicon ability to envelope the sound... without sounding artificial or losing clarity.

At $200 it's not cheap, but it's the last reverb plugin I'll be buying for a LONG time.

Hmm, course I already have the Lexicon LXP, so do I really need a NOTHER reverb?

Need?  No.   Well, yeah, maybe.

Speaking of Lexicon, I keep getting tempted to buy LXP, but between Valhalla and 2C Audio, I've got 5 really good algorithmic reverbs, not to mention EWQL Spaces, and that is already way more than I need.  That said, each one has its place in my toolbox and they all get used, so...who knows?  I should find a cheaper pastime.

Besides budget the question I'd ask myself would be if I'd use it more than or in place of any other reverb plugins I may already have.

If I needed a neutral & natural sounding reverb plugin PhoenixVerb would be my first choice without a doubt.

Would like it but I can't imagine it would be much better than my "goto" B2.

Can reverbs get much better do you think?
