Yes, PhoenixVerb for a neutral reverb hands down.
B2 for color. I like Aether, VR, Lex MPX too.

Convo's depend on the IR. Some free ones I've found on the internet are good, others are horrible.

PhoenixVerb Win updated to V1.3.11 to solve issues with presets.

Using this reverb has taught me more about reverb than I had learned in all my years of using cheap nasty sounding reverbs. All the stuff makes sense now because I can actually hear the results of the smallest tweaks. In the past making small adjustments seemed more like wishful thinking.

I regard the availability of this reverb as a gift to musicians... and the service that Mr Carnes provides with updates and pertinent information is exemplary.

I would agree Mike.

I'm always pleasantly surprised using PhoenixVerb. In many cases when I use it to replace other verbs in a project I'll find myself turning up the send & the clarity of the track is maintained. (which is of course is usually the opposite when increasing the wet )

It's a permanent fixture on my drum buss & used on most of my guitar tracks / pads as well.

Hi Mike and Carl
I'm really interested in your experiences with this product - I have a number of reverbs I use:
1) Aether - slightly complex but I am normally  happy with results after time and experimentation
2) Valhalla  -I have both standard and Vintage and now prefer Vintage - I find this an easy one to work with and get results I am happy with
3) PSP Springbox - I use this on my guitar stuff only
4) PSP Piano Verb 2 - I only got this recently as they did a VERY special offer - cost me about $15 - I only got it to try out the freeze function more as an effect - still getting use to this
5) Arts Acoustic Reverb - I have had this a long time and had stopped using as had not been upgraded to latest specifications - the update has just been released (which I was very pleasantly  surprised about) so have only just reloaded onto my system

What I was wondering was whether you can try and point out where PhonixVerb is superior / easier to get good results etc?
Also has anyone ever done a back to back test on these products to compare how they sound on similar / same sources?

Cheers
Nigel

I've been learning how to use Phoenix to add reverb where it doesn't sound like I added reverb.

It just makes stuff sound full and rich.

I have Valhalla Room and I think very highly of the company and Sean the developer.

I don't think it's a fair comparison though.

The most obvious thing is that you can dial in a 20 second decay and it doesn't sound weird... it just sounds full.

I don't use anything like that sort of length but I have found I am using much longer decays than ever before while I am learning to be more appreciative of dampening the highs.

The best advice I can share is that if you are open to using an iLok than you should just try the demo and hear it for yourself.

best regards,
mike

The verbs you mention are all good & useful, some better for coloration of sound while PhoenixVerb is neutral. A small room with a drum kit sounds natural. You could also call it clean I suppose. I can get close with Aether, but not quite.

I don't know technically how it works or what he did but I can definitely hear when comparing it with other verbs on all sorts of tracks & instruments. (or not hear it I should say)

I'm not put off by the price, it's a one man business owned & ran by Michael whom I have a great deal of respect for.
It's also one of the few plugins that I'll put up with & continue using an iLok for.

Thanks - I've no problems with iLOK so I'll give the demo a go.
Appreciate the information and time

Bummer. However there is a bright side.

Mr. Carnes seems to jump on updating anything that someone demonstrates needs to be improved. It's always a little tiny thing usually very specific to some DAW or OS but he gets right on it.

When the iLok swap over came about he even issued a pre announcement suggesting that his beta/dev testing of the license system indicated to him that people should wait and see what happens before attempting the swap.

By heeding his warning I missed the whole head ache and waited until everything worked.

That's an example of what I described as exemplary.

 all the best,
mike
