windows 7 explorer is sometimes really slow when changing directories (that bloody progress bar at the top just never gets to the other end)

had that a while ago. got somehow rid of it. now it's back. there are a zillion threads on that, yet i don't know if it's just an annoyance or if it can impact Sonar performance (i.e. is there are real hardware/software problem behind or can I safely ignore this?)

somehow I suspect that Acronis backup thingy, but I won't be able to prove unless uninstalling that and being without backup functionality ...

Indexing for search.  you can turn it off.

I have win7 Pro 64bit and haven't experienced any problems with changing directories.  searching for something sometimes can take a day and an age but usually it's me mis typing.

I've now also used ShellExView to disable all non-windows right menu options and it seem to be a lot better since the Acronis options are disabled

Not sure if it was the issue I was having at first, but sounds like it... If those other directories are on different drives, I'm betting the default power saving setting is turning all other drives on the system off after 20 min.  Finding where to disable that in Win 7 is a bit tricky http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/9090/learning-windows-7-manage-power-settings/
