I've noticed that, too, Mike.
Once upon a time--I think it was 1990--I took a trip to Austraia. The last night of the trip, I stayed at an expensive hotel in Sydney. It had the worst design I've ever seen. It had two beds and one was barely a foot away from the wall where the closet was. The TV was mounted on a bracket at the corner of said wall causing you to do a limboesque move to get to the closet.
The bathroom was just as bad. The sink was almost behind the toilet. This was particularly awkward when trying to shave! I had to lean to my left and forward to get over the sink. The toilet didn't have a problem with the TP location. Instead, it was so close to the glass shower door that you had to find that sideways seating position, too.
That was, by far, the least comfortable hotel I stayed in during that trip. It was a surprise, because it was probably the most expensive. I stayed in "mom & pop" hotels in the middle of nowhere that were much better the than that one at a fraction of the price.
