Taking Mr. Danny Danzi's advice I bought ARC (version 1 I think) a couple of years ago and used it with producer 8.5.3.   I did 15+ measurements and the whole set up a couple times and then did remixes with ARC on, turned it off, exported, and my mixes sounded worse for the wear every time.  Frustrated, and knowing that if a friend whom I trust recommended this, it must work but figured apparently not with these monitors for whatever reason?   I turned ARC off and have not touched it since.  I just learned those monitors real well and my mixes have been good.
This past weekend I went out and bought a brand new set of Yamaha HS8's to replace my M audio bx8a's and today I decided to give ARC another shot with the new monitors...
I ran the measurements, set it up, open a project I just mixed days ago, save it as another file "song name-ARC", and turn ARC on.  Everything sounds as unflattering as I remember for my last attempt & I am trying to keep an open mind, sooooo I start mixing it with ARC on.  3 minutes in and Sonar X2 producer crashes on me for no reason.  hmmm, open the project again, 3.5 minutes in and crash!  OK....  Same project, open turn ARC off and mix... no crashing!
Does that version of ARC not play nice with sonar X2?  What's going on here?  I would love to have this system actually help me, for it to be useful.  I want to believe it can.  I spent hundreds on it & it never has.

I also purchased this some time ago and have NEVER found it any good whatsoever - I tired and tried with measuring and remeasuring, but my mixes always sounded worse and most definitely did not translate onto different systems, so I gave up with it - I have not used mine since Sonar 8 so don't know if it crashes more modern Sonar versions.
Like you I also wondered whether or not  it might be my specific set up as other people think it is so good. I am just starting a rebuild on my studio which is to include new monitors and I was going to try it again- however if it is unstable, perhaps I'll just add it to the ever growing list of "dead" software!!!

Wow!  I thought it was just me!   I know when I bought it I was really frustrated.  My mixes went from pretty damn good without it to sounding like I was a hack with it when I was hoping to take them into the near excellence realm figuring....  well, I apparently have a pretty good ear, if my system can be calibrated more accurate then I will be that much more accurate.  The more I deal with this the more I wonder if this is like one of those 10 minute a day workout plans that get you "ripped"... When in reality there are no shortcuts, it takes hour per day to do that but people buy those workout plans by the millions hoping the next one will work.   Until I am proven wrong, I think you just have to spend hours & hours learning your monitors & mix environment & your mixes get better & better over time.

Sigh...nobody ever listens to me...the inevitable ARC true believers will be along momentarily to preach the gospel and recommend that you're doing it wrong or that you need to spend some more money to upgrade to version 2. But Chuck, you already know and practice the real solution. There is no shortcut to training your ears and knowing your monitoring environment.

I agree - my problem was that due to things I couldn't change at the time, my listening environment was far from ideal and ARC promised a way to ameliorate those issues - well it didn't!!
So at long last I am getting a purpose built control room - I was going to try it again as it was so expensive but to be honest I think it will just be goodbye ARC I hope - I don't suppose I can interest anyone - one careful owner, very low mileage etc etc

I get what Bit is saying but I've had good success with it. I usually mix with it but always check mixes without it as well. It is not an end all shortcut but just another helpful tool when used properly.

Starise
Ditto Guitarpima.
I am surprised by how the same product can get such different experiences. It has worked well for many yet it doesn't seem to be working for others. I have never had ARC crash any of my projects. Maybe an issue with 8.5? I'm using X2a.

I wouldn't want to be without it as a reference tool.

Bit- I know.
Guitarpima- That's what I figured I could do, use it kind of like a 2nd set of monitors to check mixes on...  No luck though.

Starise- I am running X2 producer also.  It never made 8.5.3 crash on me, but is unusable in this version at the moment for me at least.  If it won't stay up long enough to do a mix & export it, it is of no use to me.  Are these mic's good for anything recording wise?  Maybe I can get some value from it...?

I am in agreement with Dave too on this. Just listen on your speakers in your room to beautifully mixed and mastered material and you will find you can mix very well without any form of room correction. IMO too the only form of room correction I would use if any would be hardware not software. Software is not the way to do it. At least with hardware everything you do with your DAW is going through it and no software needs to be involved. It can also easily be bypassed too. There are some hardware systems easily as good as ARC. eg KRK make one.

But I stll believe you can do it without. And it is also important to be able to have a CD player running with a beautiful mix coming into your system so you can switch instantly to it at anytime during mixing or mastering. The only thing here is that the level of the CD source needs to match your mix level so it will need to be lowered obviously.

The interesting thing about this approach is that the monitors and the room are eliminated from the equation. You can do this with any speakers, anywhere. I have been doing this all my life and my mixes are perfect and sound great everywhere! I also back this up with checking mixes in mono on a small mono speaker (Auratone type) down low in volume. This is by far the most impressive way to check your mixes and your mixes will also translate perfectly too when you do this. The small mono speaker is WAY superior to any room correction system. Others will disagree though.

Danny gets the ARC working for him and I suggest you talk to him about the calibration process. I believe he has got it sorted and you may not be calibrating correctly as well with ARC. I think that is VERY important if you are going to use it.

It does take some getting used to, your ears aren't used to the new EQ curve and accuracy in your room acoustics. Listen to your favorite albums as source reference with the new sound. As for it crashing X2, please contact Support for 1 on 1 help with your set up.
