On my face, a moustache all by its lonesome is a bit goofy. That said, "I'm seldom clean shaven." My usual routine is to constantly be trimming a perpetual beard, moustache included, with my natural lines to about an 1/8th of an inch. I've got a real thick beard, and shaving is actually a pita. Once every 10 years, I get really bored and sport the circle beard for about two weeks... The last time I rocked a moustache, I was 17.
As it happens, about 10 years ago, I was at a barber, and she gave me a buzz circle beard.. It looked great for about two weeks, till I shaved it off, and about 3 weeks ago, it popped in my head as I was trimming my absolutely ferocious mane; but after two weeks, I frikking hate that look, so instead of going all the way clean shaven this time around, I left my stache in tact. By the time Nov 1st rolls around, I'm sure I'll have about an 1/8th of beard again, and I'll just even out my face with my trimmers.
Moral of the story: Unlike a hipster, I can actually grow a beard without trying. I constantly consider ZZ Topping my look, but I've not got the patience to grow a beard for two years without trimming the damn thing. Regardless, I've managed to be clean shaven only two days in 2013. A dinner party last February, and a straight razor shave @ the barber over the summer when I was just so fed up, I didn't even want to bother trimming my beard.
As for your moustache: I agree with Old55.. IMHO, you should let it grow to about a 1/2 and inch of length and consider having a barber make your lines.
