No, it's not an oversized egg timer.

http://longnow.org/clock/

" the Clock is designed to run for ten millennia with minimal maintenance and interruption. The Clock is powered by mechanical energy harvested from sunlight as well as the people that visit it. The primary materials used in the Clock are marine grade 316 stainless steel, titanium and dry running ceramic ball bearings. The entire mechanism will be installed in an underground facility in west Texas"

When you look at the physical damage to the pyramids/sphinx- that have no moving parts and are preserved/conserved by humans, not even permitted to be photographed from certain perspectives for fear of degradation- this 10,000 year clock is pretty ambitious. Plus it will tell the time while the pyramids serve no real purpose apart from extracting tourist dollars (or are they actually guidepoints for the ETs?), oh and they sharpen razor blades too right?

sidebar: can you measure time without physical change?

no this thread is not spam.

I would call an engineering project that takes 10,000 years ambitious.

(Just sayin'...)

Good point. Overly ambitious engineering project.

Don't see the point - I already know what time it is and to make matters worse they're building it somewhere where the clocks are all wrong anyway.

the hackers need to get into that clock...

imagine "are we there yet"?.. every 5 seconds for 10,000 years?

I don't get it. Has the universe expanded such that a day is now equal to what was once 10,000 years?

Have a look at 6 minutes 30 seconds in this video. Except this one shows him composing a de-de-de-de, de-de-de-de pattern.
