You probably already know this, but through a resume class at the unemployment office, I learned that one should have several resumes, tailored to the specific needs of each particular position you're applying for. Employers tend to skip over the resumes with irrelevant experience in them. Just a thought for you. :)

Sorry to hear that Colin.  My wife is also looking for work.  She went into work last Tuesday and they sent her home by lunch because of the US govt shutdown.

Good luck to you friend!

That's how I was fired.... came to work after my normal 3 days off (3 on 3 off) and was informed the VP wanted to see me since it was staff job review time..... 10 minutes later.... I'm escorted out of the building. Two weeks later I started my business.... that was 22 years ago. I haven't looked back since.

But... on the govt shutdown.... she may be qualified to collect unemployment for the shutdown. And I heard that if this is like every shutdown in the past, they will all be called back and will be back paid anyway. That was a story on the news since that is double dipping on the taxpayers dime.... but hey, it amounts to a paid vacation for most of the workers.

Bristol... your skill set should have you working again pretty quickly. You might even find a better job in the process.

Sorry about that mate, happening to a lot of people recently. On the plus side, being young in the job market is overrated. Employers are quickly catching on to the fact that large numbers of the 18-30 crowd actually have s*** for brains, can't read, can't spell, can't do basic math, don't know jack about anything and walk around thinking that they're celebrities simply by virtue of having been born.

I don't want to derail Colin's thread, but she doesn't even work for the government.  Her company does third party verification using the IRS and SSA.  They can get verification faster than banks can, so the banks use her company to verify employment, salary, etc.  since the IRS and SSA are not working then her company doesn't have any business.

Just been informed by my employer that my contract will not be renewed going into 2014.

Job hunting @ age 59.

No joke.

Two years for me Colin. I'm 60.

And my new business is NOT yet profitable.
