  • This Melodyne ARA looks really interesting. Do you know if there is a vid on it?

I suppose you could record voice and convert it to any midi instrument... or what ever instrument you play the convert it to midi and to any other instrument. Very cool... I want a vid.

This might not be what you are asking or looking for but have you been to the Celemony site and looked at their videos? There are plenty of tutorials.

I just recorded live drums on a jazz tune.  I needed a better kick so I gated the kick (which was recorded on its own track) and bounced to a new track.  I then applied Melodyne to it using the Percussive analytic.  Then, I created a new instrument track for Addictive Drums and then dragged the Melodyne track right onto it.

Voila!  I now had a midi kick drum parft.  I then transposed the kick notes to the C1 kick and seasoned to taste.  The original kick is now replaced by a Sonar bass drum and I can edit at will.

This whole process took 3 minutes at best.  How cool is that?

I have found that the audio to MIDI functionality is a little hit and miss, even on monophonic lines. A few days ago I recorded a series of very clean 16th notes on guitar (using a pick) and ran it through Melodyne and onto a MIDI track. It made a real pig's ear of the timing....some of the notes were tied.

How is that different from the way people have been using Melodyne pre-ARA?

I'm sure there is some difference and so I'd be curious to know what it is.

Pre ARA you would convert the kick drum audio to MIDI using Melodyne and then use the MIDI to trigger the drum sampler.

Has integrating ARA made this process more streamlined?

The first benefit I can think of is the Random Access that gets Melodyne loaded with the audio faster than ever.

Does it also streamline the MIDI export somehow?

Thanks.

best regards,
mike

Mike I had and used Melodyne Editor prior to ARA and tried to
use it a few times but since the X series was giving me so much
trouble -that combined with having to export and import parts to
use it I was spinning my wheels.

There's more benefit to ARA than just the use of Melodyne but it is
very nice to use with X3.
