To keep my problem short: Bought a Cakewalk V-Studio 100. Installed everything that I should (firmware update, driver and DAW). When I first went into the DAW (I have both Sonar and Reaper installed and both had the same problem) I went into the MIDI controller section to select my interface. It was nowhere to be found in the list. I noticed that when I replugged my interface Windows would give the notice that the equipment's drivers couldn't be found/installed. So I figured a driver reinstall was necessary. I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted and reinstalled. However, everytime I try to reinstall the driver gives an error stating that "A problem occured, please uninstall old drivers before trying to install this driver". I've dived into my machine and I am certain that the driver is gone both on the harddrive as in my registry. Same goes for ASIO4ALL, the VS-100 interface simply doesn't show up. Since it might be relevant, my specs are: CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 RAM: 8GB (DDR3) OS: Windows 7 65-bit I really hope someone can help me out. I really want to get started with my VS-100 :)

Sounds like you have hit the Windows problem with too many MIDI devices...
Try this advice and see if it fixes your problem.

  I tried everything on the page. First I dived into the registry myself and deleted duplicates amongst the MIDI's. And yep, I had midi to midi7 filled. After that I uninstalled and rebooted. Same error message popped up. So I decided to run the program. The program deleted a lot more duplicates from what I could tell (I suppose amongst the aux's etc). Uninstalled the driver again and rebooted. But the error still pops up :(

What program did you run? Something to kill duplicates? I even had problems booting my system when I changed from XP to Win7. Now it works flawless but rarely Sonar still looses the VS-100 driver. It is usually sufficient to reboot the system. Have you read the rather thorough instructions from Sony which comes with the driver? I ran the program linked in oy5t3h's post, which deleted duplicates in my registry. Rebooting still doesn't do a thing, the driver doesn't seem to work and still can't be reinstalled.
I've been through the troubleshooting chapter, but there is absolutely nothing about the error message I'm getting. The first malfunction I had (the driver not working) has a section in which it is recommended to uninstall and reinstall and there's a section about not being able to install the driver. But that section led to zero results.
I've also used multiple search programs I know to see if I could find anything on the internet about the issue and I couldn't find anything or anyone with the same issue or something about getting rid of it.

OK! VS-100 is then not seen in the device manager nor within Sonar? Does the system work well otherwise, including installing drivers of any kind? Do you have USB-contact between your computer and VS-100? I mean are the cables and ports ok? There should be something saying about "new USB-device found" or something... You're sure there is no 64/32 bit issue? I can't remember if one has to choose bit depth while installing the driver. If so, try 32 bit as well. Also try an older driver version. Uninstall any other sound card e g integrated on the motherboard (done in BIOS). I hope these loose thoughts could contribute and plze keep us informed.

The device does show up in the device manager. Even stating it's name (VS-100) instead of "unknown USB device". So I take it the ports are ok. I've tried every other driver version (different bit-versions, different windows-versions and both version 1 and 2), all give the same issue. I'll try to disable my integrated soundcard, it's one thing I haven't tried yet. I'll report back with results of that!

My experience with the VS-100 and the included Sonar VS was that it needed to run as a 32 bit application. I had a similar problem using the 64 bit driver.
 
You may want to try using the 32bit driver.
 
When I switched to X1 I used the 64bit driver with no issues.
