Going to anyway.
XP = clunky, no support, terrible interface compared to what 7/8 offer and God help you if you put the machine online and have stuff on it you don't want getting out because 0Day exploits were enmass. People who have the know how can now enter your system with no issue at all. This alone is why I refuse to work on company computers that have XP on it as it's a liability for me.

none of what you just said makes any sense to me.

i'm cruising along at light speed, creating and capturing performances at will, and it plays it back marvelously.
i post stuff all the time, that shows where i'm at with it....
so, i think your experience must be unique.

XP, in itself, is not bad.  But, Win 7 is a "better" OS than XP.   Whether Win 10 will be a better OS than Win7 or Win 8/8.1???? time will tell.  I don't see a lot of corporate systems being upgraded to Win 10.  Many just spent big chunks of $$ converting from XP to Win 7 and new Win 7 compatible applications software and training.  The Enterprise versions of Win 7/8/8.1 which are used by many corporate computer systems are not included in the free upgrade.

However, XP is "potentially" less secure and open to malware/spyware, etc, more that newer OS's.  The Internet was still growing when XP was released in 2002 and much of the potential malware/viruses were non existent and XP was never designed to combat them.  They have upgraded things with Service Packs, security updates, etc but its still not as secure as newer OS'.  Microsoft has now discontinued updates for XP.   Windows 7 is really to some degree in the same boat.  They have discontinued updating the OS.  There are still some security updates being issued and Win 7 has until 2020 before its totally stopped being supported at all, just like XP was last year.

If you're happy with it and more importantly, it's not connected to the internet, then stick with it. My experience is far from unique. I couldn't imagine going back to XP.

As long as everything is working the XP will do as you want.  However, if there are hardware problems, getting XP compatible hardware replacements could be an issue.

yes,
if i want to upgrade certain hardware that is run by newer drivers that must have win7 as a minimum,
then i'm off to the races.

i'll eventually choose to do that...

but more times than not,
i see that folks chase software and associated hardware thinking that THAT is what is going to make a difference in the sound of their mixes, and it probably wont.

The amount of times I've been shown a dead server on Windows NT 4 or Server 2000 and they just want me to fix the dead motherboard.... And I tell them they pretty much have to buy a completely new server with new software right now if they want to be up and running.... Leaving them with 3 or 4 day outage

Or roll a dice on ebay...

I like fast. Faster is better. I don't have to be the fastest, but doggone it, I got stuff to do! Being a desktop tech for many years, operating systems don't scare me, as I was certified up to OSX 10 Snow Leopard and Windows 7 Enterprise, and also spent some time with Unix before retiring. I'm liking 10 so far.

I went into my update menu and it was on there. Wasn't until I clicked it that I got the icon on the tray.

As in Windows Update? It's not there for me. Are you talking Win 7 Pro?

All my Win 7 pro machines are on Service pack 1, Auto Updates on, All up to date, all have been rebooted.

Not one Pro machine has the Get Win 10 app in the sys tray or in Windows Update. WTH?

As I said before, my Win 7 Home Premium lappy has it.

I wonder if it's due to my copies being OEM (albeit legit) on three of the four Pro machines.

However, on my DAW it's a legit MS Win 7 Pro Upgrade and it does not have the Get Win 10 app.
