Geez Ed, you forgot about me? :( Sniff sniff...
Sorry bro. I thought you were too busy. He said he needed it in a hurry.
Bullet22, Danny is the Man.
It's ok man....just razzin' ya. :) I'm always too busy...but I always find the time....some how. LOL! I don't do free trials so he probably wouldn't go with me any way. But I more than I make up for it in other ways. :)
I always wondered about the guys that do the "free trials" thing. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to create the mix curve for one song even if the song is 30 seconds long. In my business, I can't afford to give away an hour where I could be making money on something else.
I'd seriously think about those places offering stuff like that Bullet, because there is no way a real business could survive that way doing those things like mad...which proves to me, they probably aren't doing a good mastering job because it would be impossible.
Think about it....25 people want free trials...if you master the stuff correctly, there's an entire day spent on free trials...impossible....ludicrous, and not trustworthy in my opinion. There's more to mastering than slapping on a limiter and a basic eq curve....how these places survive baffles my mind.
Be careful of such places Bullet. Some may be good but I sure don't believe in them....and I don't say that because they are my competition. They aren't any competition because the clients I work with expect pinpoint accuracy. I say it because any real mastering engineer will confess, there's no way you can master something in under 45 minutes and do it correctly the way it should be done. Ok, MAYBE 30 minutes depending on how good the mix is...but again, 25 people times 30 minutes...you get maybe 2 clients out of it...or maybe 0...not feasible in my opinion. Still gonna be a rush job that won't compare to what a real ME would do. Again, be careful.
