Seeins how the only thing I ever run stand alone are Melodyne and TRacks...what's the great benefit to "stand alone"?  How do you guys use it?

It's a minor convenience for me.  No big deal.

It is a quick way to audition/modify kits/pieces and grooves or maybe just to learn/investigate a certain feature within a given drum vi. It saves me from having to fire up the DAW and associated hardware required to host a vi. You can save any grooves/kits/pieces you modify to be called up later in the DAW.

I use the stand alone mode for kontakt or dedicated piano vi's for practicing or creating new/modified sounds, again, without needing to fire up the DAW.

With my setup I just find it a quick and convenient way to work sometimes.

Same here,
It's convenient to quickly open to start jamming or getting quick ideas down without fussing about loading daws.
