  • Why I will probably not upgrade to ST3. (p.2)

Looking over my list of libraries* it seems that ST3 will most likely be redundant or at minimum unnecessary since I have not opened it up since I went 64bit.
(I wonder if I'll be proved wrong)

Well, I certainly don't need to spend too much on a another bread and butter factory library. Kontakt, Independence Pro and Dim Pro have those bases covered pretty well. Then I have the extra stuff in Komplete 8 and a shed load of third party Kontakt instruments. - Kirk Hunter, Hollow Sun, Sampletekk, Orange Tree, Boulder Sounds and Sound Iron products to name a few.

The upgrade price will be critical. If it costs too much I may as well keep on using the old 32 bit players for the legacy content.

I am really curious to see what ST3 brings to the table. Kontakt's only real competition at the moment is Mach 5.

IKM isn't even on my radar these days. Promises and more promises.

I wish there was a "worst" answer button in the new forum software.

I've nothing against Obi. He's just "doin' his job".

And I'm doin' mine.

I'm on the fence about ST3. It will depend on the breadth of the sample library and the initial price. The enormous shoes ST3 will need to fill aren't those of Kontakt, but of its own predecessor, ST2.

ST2 still gets used here on a regular basis. Not because it's a great piece of software - it wasn't ever the best sampler around - but because of the breadth of sounds included. I'm approaching a terabyte's worth of Kontakt libraries, but I'd need a lot more to completely cover the same ground as ST2.

If ST3 offers what ST2 does, only with higher-quality samples and a bigger UI, and doesn't cost a fortune, then I'm in.

Dave,

If I used ST2 as much as you apparently do/have I'd be in the same place.

The UI turned me off so early on that although I too have a fairly extensive library of ST2 stuff (IIRC I purchased nearly every esoundz expansion pack I could get my hands on) I just never really got into ST2 as a goto tool.

Amplitube on the other hand has been my goto amp sim.
