I don't know how I do it. I manage to get into trouble even when I'm not making any.

I ordered a large item online and the freight company is supposed to call me when the shipment is close to my house. I gave them all my phone numbers but realized that my answering machine was almost full so I decided to clear it out. I listened to all of the messages to be sure I didn't erase anything important. There were maybe 20 messages on there and all I heard were old unimportant messages and a few silent "hang ups", so I deleted them all.

My wife comes home and within 1 minute she asks me if I erased the phone messages. I sensed a problem when she asked me the question. I told her yes and I have been in the dog house ever since last night. Apparently her dad who passed about two years ago had left a voice message on that machine that she had wanted to keep forever. His message must have had a silence at the beginning because I never heard his message and must have thought it was a silent hang up. Not long ago I was taking out the trash and there was an old shoe box with wadded wrapping in it by the trash can, so I put it in the trash. It turned out to be things her dad had written....so I seem to have a knack for this kind of thing.

Is there a rain forest I can go to close to here?Craig can you put me up for awhile? Mesh do you own a camper?

Sorry to hear that, my friend. Hopefully, a bit of time will work its magic and you'll be back in her good graces.

Thanks Rain. I appreciate it. Can I put a tent up in your back yard for awhile?

The funny thing is I think Mesh and Craig think I'm actually serious. About staying with them that is. Don't worry guys I'm not "needy":) I won't bug you. I have a nice sized shed out in my back yard or I guess I could sleep under the porch.

The alpha in me says she should have taken something so obviously important and valuable to her and archived it in a way that would have allowed her to preserve it properly. Clearly not your fault, and an understandable oversight.
The married side of me is looking over his shoulder to see if his wife is reading along - out of fear that I'll be in the dog house for having the nerve to side with you. That married side says - start with flowers.....

Yeah Brando I was thinking along the same lines.

She is a "saver" and I am a clean out person. The two don't always mesh. Had I known it was so important I could have recorded that message with my zoom and archived it.

I think important things should be in important places, but I'm learning that important things can sometimes be almost anywhere.

Too bad you didn't know ahead of time so you could re-record the message onto something a bit more permanent.

That said, unless it's digital, I wonder if the "erase" process simply rewinds the tape ready to be recorded over.  You might be able to get something off the tape somehow.

If all that fails, we've got a couch downstairs.

Thanks Craig but it's digital.....I'm not sure what happens to it in that realm. If it's anything like a hard drive it gets segregated to an unused region as little bits and bites all disassembled into something unrecognizable to be written over again. That little 10 cent micro chip just ruined my life.
Funny thing is I am on a system through my cable company that lets me access my phone messages online, kind of like an audible email of your messages. These can be saved and archived.  I didn't like the potential for big brother to listen to my personal messages so I wasn't using that system. Instead I used my hardware answering machine. Maybe I need to rethink the other system, of course this is hindsight.

I was thinking on the same alpha lines, and it certainly is an honest mistake. The ladies are generally on the emotional side while us other species tend to be more rational. So with a sincere apology (which I'm sure you've already covered), hopefuly the emotional side will simmer down (soon), and she'll forgive you for this.
About the camping thingy........you're always welcome brother.........anytime.........but, I say it's better to "face the music" and patiently accept it. (Then, we can truly enjoy a few brews in the backyard :))

(Might be good to collect all the "important valuables" and put it all in a safe place......and mark it Important.)

OUCH!  sorry to hear that my friend!  I've got room in my doghouse if you need to sleep over a while!

I did something similar one time.  we were moving from Texas to Tennessee and all of our stuff was going into storage in TN when we got there.  well, I was making multiple trips from the place we were staying to the storage facility.  I ended up accidentally leaving a box sitting outside the storage facility on one trip back to the house.  that box happened to have my wife's momentos in it, including a Barbie that she had from the time she was a kid.

Boy, I was in the doghouse for a long time for that one!
