Opps!  I obviously haven't had my morning coffee.  I thought you were asking about S8.5 on Win8

Actually, just to add (and one reason I'm reticent about migrating to Windows 8) - all my older Cakewalk software runs flawlessly on Win 7 - even as far back as Guitar Tracks 2 which was released over 10 years ago, and Music Creator 24 (2004).

...

I had serious issues (another post on the CH), with W8 and Microsoft Support as their W8 -32 bit version was horrendous, and was not even saving any network settings and not talking to each other (2 machines), and after 9 hours of telephone support, I got tired of the guys from India tinkering and a Linda something/nothing at Microsoft sending me emails that said nothing and did nothing about it! So I filed a complaint with the State Attorney General in the State of Washington.

In the end, I got tired of the 32-bit bullpucky, and redid both machines with the 8-64bit. Have not had any issues with it so far ... and I asked my friend the code specialist, and he goes: "...never use 32bit, it's not even a consideration!"...

STOP using 32bit stuff, because it is just cheap home computer crap?

What I don't know is, if Sonar is good enough for the W8-64bit, and the sentiment in general appears to be a bit strange. But I ask myself this, do all the big name pros use 32bit? And the answer is NO!

Rain - just to add, I had completely forgotten this, but I have ver 8.5 and ver 8 installed on my win7x64 computer.  I never use them, they're just installed in case I have an emergency with X2.

so I do know they work on win7x64 as well.

That's the machine I am setting up with all the music stuff as well. It was Win-XP, but that machine was getting on in years, and the motherboard and its sound stuff was really not good enough for any music work.

The Gigabyte motherboard on this W7-64 machine is much better, not to mention that ALL 64bit machines USE THE MEMORY, where as all other versions of Windows DON'T.

That's an important consideration for you all ... what's the point of 8G in memory, if your 32bit Windows is only using 3.5G of it, and does not touch the rest?

8.5 works fine on W7.  So does X2.

Sonar 8 ran great on my XP laptop with 2 gigs of ram. Pre X versions were much better with low resource machines.
