Hughes and Kettner has been on my watch list for alternatives to a Marshall (should I ever do such a thing as buy something other than a Marshall). They seem to make very nice amps - as much as I dislike the colour blue...

Tell you what, I like the color blue so go ahead and send it to me instead.

I just recently purchased the H & K 18 watt.
I am blown away by it.
It is so warm and rich.
I will say however that the overdrive side of it is not great. At least not to m ears.
But the clean channel is amazing.
I just add overdrive pedals to the clean side and and wonderfully happy.

And Rain, since I do like blue it is just an added bonus for me. Ha.
Love taking it out in my hot tub room at night and playing with just the blue from the amp.
The warmness of the amp in this 25x25 room with high arched cedar ceilings and tile floors is a beautiful thing.

FWIW

I like old amps....

nothing wrong with the new stuff..... I just like the old stuff... plug in with a cord and what you see & hear is what you got.

I like new amps too..... feel free to send one to me and I'll be more than happy to beta test it and report.....

No doubt about it - I just tend to prefer red. :) Like:

Here's another one I'd be curious to try.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ID30Combo/

Actually, I was hoping to try and hopefully buy one last December but learned that it would only be coming out in 2013 - once I had made it my local Guitar Center, that is.

For whatever reason, I thought this one would actually have tubes in it - at least on in preamp stage. It doesn't. Still, that TVP thing has got me curious...

When I was at Sweetwater test driving amps when I bought the H&K, the Blackstar was one of the finalists.
I believe it was the New HT head I was playing thru, so the one you linked to probably has some new features.
For sure the Blackstar delivered an awesome overdrive channel.

Guitarhacker as you said, plug in and go, well this one you certainly could do that.
However the clean side was just dull and lifeless.
That sealed the deal for me.

And rain, that Laney with the red is pretty cool looking too!

Well, I started laughing at the 36 AMP rating.. (is an editor the best job or what?)

but then.. output loading, midi controlled.. sounds like a recording studio dream..

fwiw I am constantly unsettled that ipad apps seem to be the vogue for controlling such stuff (the Roland JP80 is the best example of this).. as these synths and amps will be around long after ipads and ios (or android) is lost in the dust.

give me midi or give me.. umm.. more midi

I don't use an iPad, not yet at least. Since I'm always home and pretty much always in the studio, it would be redundant for the biggest part and using a computer is actually preferable.

BUT I was trying to come up w/ the best possible layout for the room I work in last night and I can tell you that I'd LOVE to be able to tweak my amps from here behind the desk. An amp which can be controlled by an app - preferably running on the computer - would be terrific.

Then the only thing missing would be to have tiny robots built to move the mics, like that guy from Rammstein has...

I hear you..
I have a tidy and efficient space.. in this shot piano is behind the Fantom, vocal booth back left and bass/gtrs behind piano
lots of desk space.. and neat.

I have just reorganized the studio to put my honking s70xs on the desk for a recording session.. talk about motivation to get the track down.. I cant even place a cup of coffee anywhere!.. gonna get this done today or tomorrow and get back to normal.
