Hi,

The two drummers I like to listen to the best are the late Pierre Moerlin (make sure you get "You" from Gong, or "Exposed" with Mike Oldfield) ... or Steve Gadd. If you don't know Steve Gadd, just get kate Bush's "50 Words for Snow" ... to find out what ... "no drumming" is all about!

+1 for Steve Gadd.

I recently watched an Eric Clapton video "Session One" from his Robert Johnson project featuring Gadd - who has snare control and a corresponding sound to die for !

Cheers,
Jerry

I also love listening to his work with Rickie Lee Jones on her first albums ... she has never sound half as good as she did then, and I think that much of it had to do with Steve's accents on the emotional thing of hers, instead of a "song" format, or drum pattern. The opening of all 4 albums up to Magazine, are excellent ... totally well done and recorded, and only someone that LISTENS to the lyrics, and KNOWS what they mean, can do that!

Or who does what the songwriter says to do.

I'm familiar with his older brothers work.
One of the best works ever recorded IMO.

This tempted me into listening to this fine album (been a while) which then reminded me of just how damn loud current recordings have gotten.  I haven't had to turn up my speaker volume to listen to anything in a long time!  (Hope I remember to turn it back down before playing something more current and squished - lol!)

Depends ... sometimes there are things that the writer/singer can not see or know, and if they are open to it, they will let folks do their thing ... many times, others are better musicians and they have a feel that ... helps you ... why would you not accept it?

But yeah ... if the songwriter is god and he insists on you being a subpar musician ... go ahead ... be my guest!

FWIW, Last in Line will be performing San Diego on October 12th. As much as I like San Diego and would love to see Campbell and the guys live, unfortunately, Saturday is a no go for us.

Have you seen any of the footage from the gigs last month? You can tell the guys are enjoying it.

While not too close to San Diego itself, Ramona is where all my remaining relatives are down in So. Cal.  In fact, I bet my third-cousins could walk to that venue from their house - I'll have to ask if they go there.
