Advertising
Cakewalk does not allow any form of advertising, therefore promoting websites or products in the forum is inappropriate. Hyperlinks to 3rd party web sites are allowed only if they pertain directly to the discussion topic

I see Products  mentioned from forum members AND  COMPANIES( well, certain companies) promoted all the time.

Maybe what is the definition of "promoted"

a. To raise to a more important or responsible job or rank.
b. To advance (a student) to the next higher grade.

2. To contribute to the progress or growth of; further. See Synonyms at advance.
3. To urge the adoption of; advocate: promote a constitutional amendment.
4. To attempt to sell or popularize by advertising or publicity: commercials promoting a new product.
5. To help establish or organize (a new enterprise), as by securing financial backing: promote a Broadway show.

AHH number 4..
maybe then what is publicity?
1. a. Information that concerns a person, group, event, or product and that is disseminated through various media to attract public notice.
b. Public interest, notice, or notoriety achieved by the spreading of such information.
c. The act, process, or occupation of disseminating information to gain public interest.

2. The condition of being public.

hmmm seems to fit the bill...

I wonder what happens if a person were to go to said forums and publicize other products there?

I know on "UNOFFICIAL"  forums, other products ar ementioned and the mods dont ban/lock/delete the posts..

They're just blanket guidelines & rules.
I don't think it's that big a deal for a music related forum to talk about other company's products. If it were the mods would remove them, right?

It also drives a certain amount of search engine / web traffic here which helps promote Cake products as well which I'm sure they don't mind.

Just guidelines that sometimes are abused???

Its kind of like this whole mind/hive set of society today, I thought a blanket covered things, so its just a suggestion, that if I don't want to follow is OK?

Talk about is one thing, GUSH over them and constantly push them and IGNORE questions about 3 year old promises is another

.But hey FREE advertising and buzz over your  new stuff is cool , go for it, if your a company man..

Gushing is ok IF its warranted, and I suppose if you just have to have "that" product, then gush away, it floats your boat..

UPDATE :HM OK you get yourself a "partnership "and its all OK..

well Ive been schooled...I am in a small minority it seems

Ill spend my money elsewhere, not that it affects those in question, but gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to spend elsewhere

And Obi I can only speak for myself (and quite obviously everyone does not think like I do) but you are MORE than welcome -you'd be EVEN MORE welcome if you were to get me my Sample Tank upgrade tomorrow, but that's another matter!!!!!!!

Do we really want a forum that never announces relevant third-party products, or that discourages participation by third-party vendors? How dull would that be?

The TOS is necessarily broadly written, to cover the kitchen remodelers and fake-Nike sneaker people. In practice, if users don't complain they let it slide, and that's how it should be.

We routinely give a free pass to vendors whose products we like and use. That includes you, IK Obi. Yeh, it's sometimes borderline whether the post is really relevant to us - e.g. IKM's endless iToys campaign - and we whine loudly when that happens. But I want IK Obi to feel free to announce ST3 whenever he damn well pleases!
