well I posted a response and explanation yesterday basically clarifying my thoughts,,

either the forum dog ate my response or it got removed....  I made reference to a Fairchild emulation in the post and I see MMQ referenced it ?

If you mean the 2 LA's I think Mike posted that in response to John's

I see nothing wrong in alerting the forum of third party plugins that do not compete with what CW is offering

Personally I have no problem with Obi or any other representatives stopping by our threads and contributing.

But I also think there's a line between providing helpful information and let's call it "overenthusiastic promotion of products", which I don't think adds much value to a discussion here. It's nice when a vendor can confirm, correct or clarify something or provide some additional information, but their opinion of how great their own products are is of zero value to me.

Thank you, that was, basically, my point and feelings, albeit my clumsy way of professing that statement.

I didnt even use  the terms sockpuppet, fanboi, shill, one post vendor plant, or the like, since I didnt think they applied to my OP.

Well I have no problem with Obi being here for sure. But I would say he has a bit of a problem with the overenthusiastic promotion thing I would certaintainly call this a bit overenthusiastic to say the least

ObiYou can't simply recreate these legendary compressors or EQs with simple saturation or EQs. We model the entire circuit, each resistor and so on. We are well known around the music industry for being the best at it too. Just ask any of our partners. Fender could have gone with anyone. Orange too. We do it so well there are many that DON'T want us saying what we modeled.

And so on = things and such and whatnot

And now for a message from our sponsor...

It's "The Software forum?" Its reason for being is to talk about SW? From other vendors.

Was this just an attempt to foment controversy?

The fact that we're here discussing on a forum meant for non-Cakewalk software indicates that they're in no way banned. Discussing can include anything from basic "out now" -info to extremely positive/negative user experiences.

I read the TOS so that regular marketing material by the vendors is not allowed.

Talk and discussion is good, sock-puppetry is not

OHGRANT observed the situation, although I would not point at that particular vendor.

I am not calling for censuring I think the advertising needs to be toned down a bit...

theres KVR, Gearslutz, HC and the like where vendors can hawk their wares and quote the slick marketing ad copy.

Speaking of such, some of you guys suggest THIS subforum is the only place you learn about such new products, there are email lists you can sub to, or you can read the IK forums, NI forums, Arturia,Waves, DUC, KVR, GS, The Womb, etc....

Never said it was the only, I regular all of the sites you have mentioned. It's just the best site. I go to GS to catch up on the SMB7 love.

The way I look at it is, if anyone wants to come on here and promote their music related software it's no skin off my nose, and if Cakewalk aren't bothered by it then everything's sweet.

I think it's great when they release a new product, or have a sale and let us know about it. If it was daily spam about the same things over and over I would feel different about it.

I have to say I'm with Make Shift and Sharke on this - I find it very convenient (and time saving) to have new software / upgrades / experiences with software,  mentioned on one site, in fact this site - a great deal of the software has to work inside a host (our host in most instances being Sonar) so I can't really see how there is any problem at all - if someone finds a good bit of software which enhances our Sonar experience as a whole, surely that's a good thing, even if said product is not a Cakewalk product??
All seems a bit of a storm in the proverbial tea cup to me.
Cheers
Nigel
