Well, I was very happy to pick up The Giant Piano for $49.50 USD, as I had been planning to get that one, anyway. I think at some point I will check into Komplete, but I have a lot of other stuff to explore and get used to, first.

hey i just received my disks.....they installed a lot quicker than I inspected. When I looked at the properties of the Kontakt library file, the size of the file is 23gb not the 40+ I expected.
I still have to download the retro synths but I think thats only about 3/4gb of samples......Is this the same for everyone?? Compressed files???

My understanding is that the samples are compressed from ~43 GB down to ~23 GB.

Thanks for replying ---- I thought it must be something like that, ----- kontakt must be able to read and process the compressed files.

Just checked...my K4 library is 45GB (53,603 files in 5,951 directories!). The compression feature was introduced with K4 but the libraries were still uncompressed on the distribution disks. If you wanted to you could compress them yourself. Starting with K5 they come compressed already (even though nothing in the library changed between 4 and 5). This isn't just a favor they're doing for you - they like compressed files at NI because compressed files can't be opened by any program other than Kontakt.

If you've just gotten Kontakt and have a Groove3 pass it's well worth watching Eli Krantzberg's video tutorial on Kontakt. I've stumbled my way blind through this program for the better part of a year, mainly to get quick access to my libraries, and I had never really explored the full power of the program (who's got time to read the Kontakt manual??). However in just a day of watching these videos I've learned more about its power and versatility than I did in a year, and realized just how much of it I have been missing out on. I now understand how Kontakt is structured and what you can do with it. Definitely worth purchasing this course if you don't have a pass.
