As a first step in order to move up to Logic X, which only supports 64 Bit plug-ins, and in order to upgrade Cubase as well and eventually, maybe Pro Tools, I first need to upgrade my OS.

I hate to lose Dimension and Rapture but considering that the last supported OS was Snow Leopard (2009) and that there's been 2 major OS upgrades since - and another one coming this fall - I don't think Cakewalk will ever upgrade them. It's a shame really because Cakewalk had a couple of very awesome synths on their hands...

I do have strange feelings about Cakewalk these days, and the way they conduct business. Without necessarily being negative, I can't say that I'm all that positive. It's a strange moment. And since they won't even speak of their flagship product, there's no way I can imagine them saying that they're about to discontinue those synths - especially when they're putting them on sale every month...

Ironically, the one company I used to be so vocal about and warn people against, Steinberg, has just released an update for Cubase 6.5. That's right, they've released an update for 6.5 months after 7 came out. They really seem to have revamped their act.

Hopefully, Cake will emerge of this transition period shining.

Jeez, Rain, I thought you were abandoning ship!

Never. :)

But being saying farewell to Dimension and Rapture definitely marks the end of an era. They were among my favorite tools, even after I moved to Mac.

Why do you have to forgo those synths? Why would a change in OS cause a plugin problem?

For example FX 3 sound stage was out with win 98 and still works on Windows 8.

Not sure of the success rate with VST instruments but I guess there is already a way for you to bridge for free http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/logic-pro/how-to-run-32-bit-plug-ins-in-logic-pro-x

Can't you still use jBridge in Logic 64bit?

We all love our favorite tools, but; it's more important to be a carpenter, than to have your favorite hammer...

I've been working on some sax parts "for months?" Between we and my collaborator? What he wants, what I did, etc... It's more about your creativity IMO that it is the tools. The PITA is trying to learn new tools the way you understood the one's you loved. Like if I lost access to my sax plugs? It would suck pretty hard and loud, but I would have to move on.

Thanks for chiming in guys. Unfortunately it isn't only a matter of bridging the plug-in - the OS itself isn't supported and the plug-ins simply won't install - tough I think that some people managed to work around that.

I'm not a big fan of workarounds and bridges and anything that's not officially working and supported. If I trusted that Cakewalk was going to update both plug-ins and support newer OS, it might be different (though I doubt it). But it doesn't really look like it.

It's really sad and indicative of what I see as Cakewalk's problem that Rene left and instrument development stopped.  They never seem to stay on a path and develop things.  They introduce them and move on.
