I like the silver burst Rain.

I don't know why Gibson didn't make the SG a neck-through design.
If I made one I would.
Maybe it's because with the neck pup pocket and thin body just not much meat left.
Neck-through, bridge pup only- problems solved and a rockin axe. Just a thought.

I'd love to see one like that. In fact, I'd like a thicker SG better. One of the reasons why I keep looking at those ESP Vipers. The slightly modified SG shape looks very cool...

Hi,

Isn't Epiphone the low level (low cost) version of the Gibson stuff?

If so, this would not be as good as the main on by Gibson.

I made the mistake of getting their EB3 bass (black of course!), and thought that it might give me a nice version of the original EB0 that I had that I regret having let go. Even the Fender Jazz Bass that I got for it, did not do as well, though both were very easy on my hands, as they were small scale for my small hands ... which means my pinky can make its way around!

But I miss the nice booming sound that the EB0 had that the Fender Jazz didn't, and neither does the EB3 bass by Epiphone. Rather disappointed with it, and am looking for something else that will help me want to play more.

I've never been much on SGs but I like that slant design more. A long scale to push that bridge and bridge pup back a little would be my preference. I'd like to see how it looked with a slant 6 tuner head.

Gibson themselves are not always as good as Gibson. And some Epiphones are actually pretty good. You only need to try them before you buy them. As I would with any guitar, anyway...

Stopped at Guitar Center this pm to grab strings and picks and couldn't resist having a quick look around. While I was once again drooling over Les Paul's, my wife brought my attention to a SG she liked:

Some of you might remember my recent attempt at finding an inexpensive SG as a second guitar after a lifetime of having virtually no interest for the model - which ended up w/ me buying a Les Paul Traditional Pro that quickly became my main axe.

Anyway, I tried that one this afternoon and loved it. Contrarily to Gibson, Epiphone's so-called 60s neck refer to thicker/fatter necks, which I prefer quite a bit. Felt right the minute I grabbed it, unlike the other SGs I'd tried.

I'm guessing that if that one had been there in July, it'd probably be here in the studio since, even though I'm not too crazy about the finish. No regret though, because the LP turned out to be my favorite guitar ever, and its stock pick-ups are terrific.

But now I know there's at least on SG that's right for me out there...

I can't play guitar, but I want that one!

I've always had a thing for white SGs, even though I usually prefer black guitars. The best looking one, imho, is the little inexpensive Gibson SGJ. Only thing missing for my taste is the trapezoid inlays... And obviously make it thicker - a 10lbs SG, now that would be a dream...

I've tried a few of them on my quest for a SG but I really wasn't impressed w/ any of them. The Epiphone G400 felt better... Though I could maybe find one of those SGJ that I like by going through many, many of them...

I already know that, if I ever get an SG, it will be a double neck (6 & 12) so I can play all those fun Zep and Styx songs that need one.

One of my good friends in Montreal has one of those. He buys all those cool guitars and always insists that I try them when we visit them. Last time it was a 60s Les Paul and that 2 necks SG. He is that mean... ;)

Well, he lives in Montreal so he's probably just jealous that you don't.

Craigslist-ing tonight I stumbled upon this one:

Herr Riffmeister und Master of Doom aka Tony Iommi's signature SG in a lovely white coffin case. Not a big fan of signature and I still prefer the white ones, but this one is cool nonetheless. And the coffin case is just too sweet...
