Pretty scary when Freddie H , is praising cubase .. Is cubase 64 bit?

Yes I believe it is x64 now. I remember reading 32 Bit & 64 Bit versions both included.

yeah it's 64 bit. I've found that mixing 32 bit and 64bit plugins is not good in Cubase. I think the Cakewalk vst wrapper is doing a better job in that regard.

Honestly, other than smart tools and skylight, Cubase is light years ahead in every department. I suspect Roland have realised this.

I'm curious about the MIDI editing options there.

How are they, and do you know if there's any difference with those MIDI options between the Artist versions and the full version? [Apparently I'm not allowed to ask that on their forums.]

I'm not sure about the difference between artist and full however these are the thing I've noticed

  • midi notes use colour to give you a visual representation of velocity - red being hot, blue being cool. All of this is configurable
  • select a section - hit ctrl d - repeats it - at the right section
  • when you open a midi clip the piano roll zooms to the right level
  • you can route 1 drum track to many different drum sources - each drum sound can have its own quantisation set. Setting a quantisation level such as whole and using the draw too inserts a beat at each whole beat.
  • note expression is amazing. You can apply for instance pitch bend to one note rather an all of them - great for string parts
  • if you want to transpose the entire track simply use chord tracks
  • much more granularity in how quantise - the beginning, the end, the duration, all of them etc
  • press q and the whole midi track will quantise 0 you don't have to select all notes to do so
  • visual feedback on the keyboard when a key is played

I have a question about mixing in Cubase.

I am getting the impression that you can not mix effectively from the track view because you can not access all your controls in it.

Is that correct? I haven't seen the console view of SONAR in a decade.

Consoles seem so last century to me, but I am getting the impression that I would have to use the console view to mix in Cubase.

Yes? No? How is it different from SONAR's track view?

Thanks.

best regards,
mike

I was just considering to make the switch to cubase or at least drop some money and try it out. But!!!!! I remember back at cubase 4 , we had a major issue with there protection ( dongle ) . It was crash city and it was a nightmare to ey working.. No way will I waste a USB port for protection .

Their new exclusive dongle makes it difficult to run a demo without buying a dongle.

Hence my most basic question about the track view.

I guess if you like it and buy it you get a an extra dongle?
