So far so good here.
I've been transferring X2 projects into C7 for several days now. Along with VEPro5 / 12G of samples loaded I haven't a crash or the ever popular white screen yet.

Sounds good so far!  When you say "transferring X2 projects into C7", do you mean transferring raw audio/midi data and manually recreating/rerouting/remixing/etc the projects in Cubase?  I assume there is no compatability other than OMF import?

I expect to keep Sonar X2 to finish any current projects.  But any new projects, or those still in early stages, will be created in Cubase.

I'm changing my orchestral templates completely & importing Midi1 files along with a few exported audio tracks.
It's works well. I'll open a project both in C7 & X2 each loaded with instruments/ samples along with VEP5. I can switch between them all including playing audio to double check parts or presets.
I've got 40 projects left to do this way & will eventually complete them all in C7. This is the best way for me to learn the ins/outs of a new program.
By the time X3 is released (I'm guessing in a few months) I'll know which one I'll continue using as my main DAW.

Wow, you really intend to convert 40 projects!?  My strategy was going to be: finish Sonar projects in Sonar, and go with Cubase for everything new/young for a fresh start.  Maybe I can transfer more than I initially though.  Thank you for the input.

I've done about dozen already.
The time consuming part is redoing the template between the DAW & VEPro making sure everything jives when creating a new project.

For me the most time-consuming part would be the mix itself.  So you've helped me see that I can probably convert over everything with little hassle, except for projects close to being fully mixed.

I'm planning to still use Sonar X2 for my live gig and teaching because I don't want to have to worry about losing or breaking a dongle.  I'm doing all my creative projects in C7 now.  After spending some time setting up templates, when I import the MIDI and audio i'm ready to go.  I've got all my main FX and routings already set up.  I also learned and created my main key bindings so it really has been surprisingly easy.  Also the C7 manual may be the best in the industry IMO.

This is a superb example of company interaction and communication.  This is from the KVR forum - not even on the Steinberg forum!

Hello all,
Quote:
mixers still comes up in crazy sizes with missing parts. And can't get at the tool bar.
Steinberg:
Do you still suffer from this when you set the mixer to full size in one of your screens?

Quote:
Control Room fader restores with parts blanked out or weird size.
Steinberg:
Can you please attache a screenshot of this, and what is the resolution of your screen?
Or can you give a little more details how can I reproduce this? I can't reproduce this on my setup.

Quote:
Now you only see 5 characters of the track name
Steinberg:
It depends on the zoom level, but yes we have noticed that the font might have increased, we are investigating.

Quote:
Still have the problem with plugin hiding requiring like 4 clicks to get a plugin to reappear.
Steinberg:
This should be fixed on the next major update.

Quote:
Shift+select Routing still doesn't work unless all tracks are contiguous.
Steinberg:
Sorry I can not reproduce this one, could you please start Cubase in safe mode and try again?

etc.. etc.. etc..

Best regards,
GN

Yes indeed!  I even saw a Steinberg rep specifically mention 7.0.6 in the 7.0.5 release thread!  I love it. I'm so done with what is happening here with the secrecy and black-out.  It's a bad feeling.  I really look forward to being on board with a company doing the full opposite, respecting and communicating with their customers.

As a former Cubase user of many years and a current Wavelab owner, I would just advise to not let that one example fool you into thinking that it's somehow representative of how Steinberg interacts with customers on their own forums.  If you think the support here on the X2 forum has gotten bad (and it has), you're in for a big surprise - Steinberg is still far worse IMO.

So far (6 weeks) my experience has been exactly the opposite.

Forum:  I have received very generous, friendly and in-depth help from users.  I've been sent instrument patch scripts and walked through several functions. I have found no sniping or disrespectful posts.  Steinberg support is constantly on the forum helping and saying things like "that bug should be fixed in the next release" or "that feature is slated to be added in the .5 release".  But get this... Steinberg staff are doing the same things in Gear Slutz and KVR!!!

Support:  I have received a reply to my support emails on the same or next business day without fail so far.  If required they will arrange a time to call me.
